NEW YORK, NY--(MARKET WIRE)--Apr 13, 2009 -- Mega Media Group, Inc. (OTC BB:MMDA.OB - News) (www.megamediagroup.com) announced that it has signed a multi-year air lease agreement for the WDCN-LP 87.7 frequency with Signal Above, LLC. Under the terms of the agreement, revenue will be shared between the parties with certain minimum lease fees paid by Mega Media Group, Inc. Pulse87 will start broadcasting on WDCN during the 2nd quarter of 2009 to the Washington, D.C. market.

Commenting on the announcement, Alex Shvarts, CEO, stated, "This is another milestone for the growth and expansion of our Pulse87 brand. Washington, D.C. is the #9 radio market with annual billings in 2008 of $310 million. The diversity of the Washington, D.C. Market will work well for our unique lifestyle music format. We will continue to implement our business plan expansion by signing these revenue sharing agreements. These agreements allow us to enter markets without the upfront capital burden of purchasing frequencies. This strategy allows us to operate at a much lower cost of entry and achieve quicker returns to our bottom line. We continue in talks with other markets for similar opportunities."

I haven't seen anything that says that the deals for LA and Chicago were signed. Does anyone know if its still going to happen in those markets on June 1st?

Miami, Detroit, and even indianapolis and Saint Louis could suport a Pulse like Dance station over Washington... Why is it that people forget that Dance was born in Midwestern USA... Chicago-Detroit,, and at The Shack in Indianapolis,, and also Columbus Ohio, and Cleveland... All these markets, and yes of course Miami could and would suport 24/7 Dance......... Even Knoxville and Nashville Tennessee could support one,,, why is it always on an East coast city signal when the South and Midwest get nothing but specialty shows.

Midwest....I love ya but, this shouldn't be a thread about this city should get it over another city, etc.

I am glad D.C. is getting such a station like this. Heading south on I-95 past the Delaware Memorial Bridge, as a dance music fan you couldn't find anything on the FM dial! D.C. has had a dance music following out of Z-104 in the past so for the Pulse brand to go there, it's good. And I do hope that other markets follow. But I'm REALLY jonesing on the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area. Only problem is that there is a Channel 6 down there (WTVJ). Now, with the move to HD, I don't know if that signal will be "cleared" but if Pulse can get down there, that would be good! Besides, Chicago is getting Pulse too and who knows what may happen down the road! :)

So now NYC-DC on I-95 will be a dance fan's favorite route. Start off with Pulse 87, then switch to something else till exit 7A, switch to Z88.9, then to Super 91.7, then Mix 106.5 (it has dance mixshows), then Pulse 87 again. You can hear a dance station along 160 miles of that route in the near future. If you leave on a Friday night, you could hear dance music along the entire route.
By the way, Super 91.7 comes in through the entire state of Delaware up to the DE/MD tolls, not just over the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

DC is definitely a great choice for Dance radio. A number of high profile Dance acts hail from there (BT, Deep Dish), some of the country’s best weekly club events happen in DC.
As Tony has been suggesting, the South Florida market is primed for a Pulse 87 type of station, and yes the East Coast is definitely the best place to launch the most Dance stations. It’sthe most supportive region in the country for both commercial and underground Dance music. Boston could support a Pulse 87, so could Hartford (Tony, remem er what WTIC and Kiss 95.7 used to sound like?), Poughkeepsie (close enough to NYC, and K-104 has always been Dance friendly when it could), Providence, Atlantic City (or simply the Jersey Shore as a whole), Cape Cod, etc. Philadelphis obviously needs its own Dance station as Z-88.9’s target area is east of the city while Super 91.7 can only be heard clearly in Wilmington and its surrounding areas.
Tony, how clear is Pulse 87's signal in northern Jersey? I know there's signal issues in Manhattan. How is it in places like Newark and Jersey City? What about Monmouth and Ocean Counties?
We already have Dance in San Francisc with Energy, in Seattle with C-89.5, and hopefully Vibe 94.5 will at some point actually be heard in Vegas properly (not just in the desert)
Other cities for Pulse 87: Atlanta (great club scene + one of the country’s biggest gay population), Orlando, Dallas, Phoenix , Detroit, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, New Orleans ,Denver have all has Dance stations so they should be considered. Tampa, San Diego, El Paso, Charlotte, Panama City Beach, Reno, Key West, Toledo, Minneapolis, and Buffalo (due to Toronto’s influence) are also in the most-likely list.

Secondary cities: Several cities found in NY state could be on this list – Albany, Syracuse, and Rochester. Not sure whether Baltimore blongs on this list or the first list. Several Florida cities including West Palm Beach, Melbourne, Ft. Walton Beach, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, Ft. Myers, and even Gainesville (due to its club history) could be brought up. In the Midwest this would be a good time to mention St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Ft. Wayne, Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Madison, Grand Rapids, maybe even Saginaw, Terre Haute, and Champaign. In the South there’s cities like Nashville, Raleigh, Charleston, Knoxville, Savannah, Mcallen-Brownsville, and Laredo. Further West you got Sacramento, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, Tuscon, Santa Barbara, and Palm Springs.

Finally, there’s the Third Wave Markets, which could be considered down the road if/when the time is right: Harrisburg Norfolk, Omaha, Wichita, Birmingham, Pensacola, Gulfport, Lafayette (Louisiana), Binghamton, Colorado Springs, Corpus Christi, Oklahoma City, Little Rock, Memphis, Louisville, Lexington, Greenville South Carolina), Des Moines, Boise, and Allentown.

Z889 hits Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Monmouth University knocks us out when we get close to them. Sit in the parking lot at Great Adventure and we come in crystal clear. Our Antenna is 20 minutes away from the jersey shore. We also take care of the drive down to AC. We cant hit AC because of high school station in the city on the same frequency, but we do come in until the last toll boll on the expressway. Take the Parkway north and its Z889 crystal clear. Atlantic City demos do not fit for a dance station the surround area does and thats where we hit. Looking at coverage maps gives the station a bad image of where we hit. In the Monmouth Ocean County and Atlantic City books we have detections. Those numbers always rise in the summer for us. In Philly the majority of dance fans are South Jersey based or live in the Eastern part of Philly.

WMPH just hits south of Philly. We have almost overlap with them.

I think before everyone starts jumping the gun at where stations need to be, let Pulse actually sign on in these three cities and see how they do. This is not a negative statement. Will these stations have an impact on those cities? You want a dance station in these other cities help support the Pulse stations as well as the rest of us.

Huh? I'll give you house music but there was dance music way before that and house was a spin on stripped down disco.

Not to start a who started dance music thread within this but the facts are the facts. ;)

And that's a total given :) . Once the demand shows in the new Pulse markets, other cities can eventually catch on. I've been pushing on South Florida as of late but lately there has been a good argument going on over at the Boston forum for a dance station to appear there. And why not! It has worked in the past for Boston, and not a Star 93.7 type station either...something like a Pulse, Z-88.9, Super 91.7, C-89.5.

Just thinking for D.C., being the market that it is, I could see a more "soulful" dance presence happen (Deborah Cox, Ultra Nate, Crystal Waters) on this version of Pulse. It couldn't totally sound like NYC.

Let me answer it this way...and it did bring a smile CHRles! :)

First paragraph - Kiss 95.7 was a FAVORITE back in the 90's! They certainly did some good dance music there. As soon as Hot 97 would fade out around New Haven, I would switch it to 95.7. Then once I lost 95.7 around the Rhode Island border, I would tune in to KIX 106 out of Woonsocket (Providence area) for dance music there...and Kix did a LOT more dance. The area of New Bedford has Fun 107 and they are a very good dance friendly CHR as well as K-104 out of Poughkeepsie (when I was in college (mid 80's), K-104 didn't touch much dance! After the 90's...a different story. Add TO the fact that WBPM up in Kingston did a dance format for a bit. I think did a lot of "provoking" on Philadelphia in that one thread where I think I shouldn't say anymore...so as not to piss off anyone here (since I don't need to create enemies and don't consider any of you as such....and hope not likewise.) I'll just say it this way, what Philly DOESN'T need is a "dans stayshun" (inside joke on the Philly board)

Second paragraph - For New Jersey, Pulse 87 comes in fine in Bergen and Passaic Counties (Ft. Lee, Ridgefield, Kearny, Paramus, Paterson) and certain parts of Hudson County (West New York, Weehawken). Around Newark, Pulse's signal starts to lose out a bit. You can barely catch the station in Jersey City and Hoboken (even in parts of Manhattan on the west side south of 14th Street, there are signal issues). Pulse gets totally lost south of Exit 13 (Elizabeth) on the New Jersey Turnpike. Monmouth and Ocean counties? FORGET IT. WPVI (Channel 6 - Philadelphia) starts to come in over there.

To look at it from New York, Pulse covers parts of Nassau County (mainly to the north and west) as well as Westchester County (as far north as Croton-Harmon) and parts of Rockland County (Nyack, Pearl River, Nanuet). Pulse also comes in pretty good in the western part of Fairfield County, Connecticut.

Jersey City & Hoboken are directly across the river from the tall buildings of Manhattan that stand in the way of That Big Blue Building. East of 5th Avenue and north of 42nd street, Pulse comes in fine. You can get Pulse 87 well in Monmouth county along the Parkway until Belmar. And I get Pulse till exit 10 with static. There's a pirate station in Newark (gee what a surprise) on 87.9 that has a stronger signal in NJ than Pulse 87 and is always overmodulated so it bleeds on to 87.7, and sometimes there's a pirate on 87.7 itself in Newark that only covers the downtown area of Newark. The furthest south I get Pulse 87 normally is on the top floor of the parking garage at the Trenton train station, and 5 miles southwest of there, in Bordentown during a strong tropo.

As for Washington DC, Pulse 87 will be able to be heard within the Beltway and halfway to Baltimore on 295.

Pulse covers Nassu all the way East into Suffolk. I listen in Seaford and Levittown and have listened to it heading over the "border" in Suffolk. Not sure how far east in Suffolk it goes though.

There were times I picked up Pulse around Asbury Pk, but when I was around Belmar, I would get smacked with Philly's WPVI channel 6 audio. Pulse sounds good at the Northern Monmouth coast, from Sandy Hook to Keyport

Maybe the FCC will start authorizing channel 200 again.

I actually have no problem getting Pulse on the parkway south from Woodbridge all the way down to the Brick area. This past weekend, it was loud and clear along 35/36 from South Amboy, Keyport and Sandy Hook, south into Long Branch. Last summer I was lucky enough to catch it heading towards Brick and northern Toms River.

Norfolk/VA Beach needs to be added to this list. We had a very CHR-Dance leaning station with 1061 the Zone before they killed it. The weekend mix shows were full of Dance, but due to a small signal it never got the ratings and they killed it for Country....and the ratings for that is the same as the Zone. The signal will never get ratings until it gets better.

We need a CHR-Dance leaning station to come back.

I remember when Energy 106.1 was on the air but they were on a Rhythmic A/C direction. I did notice that "US106" applied for a CP to extend their coverage and move their stick to Portsmouth
