Let me first start off by saying... these are two impressive stations for a small market! I live in Dayton, OH so I can relate. I discovered both of them by searching the web looking for CHR's to listen to to evaluate. I couldn't find the Springfield market, so I assume there isn't one. What I noticed: KISS did a good job breaking new music, but stuck to the big hits. WDBR definitely leaned adult, but unlike most Saga stations, they didn't power the Hot AC currents. Reminded me of the old Z93 in Dayton a bit (especially the jingles). I tried to ask myself, which station would be on the #1 preset? I like KISS for the music, but WDBR's imaging definitely was better.
Here they are at 10pm (central):
WDBR: Katy Perry - Firework
KISS: Katy Perry - Firework
Tie here.
WDBR: Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone
KISS: Fefe Dobson - Stuttering
Tough one to call. Great gold with Alice, but great new song by Fefe. If I were the average listener, I'd probably stay for Fefe since it sounds like a hit song already.
WDBR: The Script - Breakeven
KISS: Chris Brown - Yeah 3x
Chris Brown is hot right now with that track! Would have more power over The Script's hot recurrent single.
WDBR: Chris Brown - Yeah 3x
KISS: Stopset
Goes to WDBR by default.
WDBR: Stopset
KISS: Jay Sean/Lil Wayne - Down
Goes to KISS by default.
WDBR: Stopset
KISS: Enrique Iglesias/Ludacris - Tonight
Goes to KISS by default.
WDBR: Nelly - Just A Dream
KISS: Pitbull/T-Pain - Hey Baby (Drop It To The Floor)
KISS wins here. Pitbull is a hot club single, not to mention, it has a lot less burnout than Nelly.
WDBR: Usher/Pitbull - DJ Got Us Fallin In Love
KISS: Rihanna/Drake - What's My Name
KISS wins here. Rihanna is the #1 song in the country.
WDBR: Linkin Park - Waiting For The End
KISS: Justin Bieber/Ludacris - Baby
Tough one! Linkin Park hasn't really taken off, but Bieber isn't exactly the smash you wanna hear at night either. Goes to WDBR for breaking the new track.
WDBR: Kanye West/Jamie Foxx - Gold Digger
KISS: Ke$ha - We R Who We R
KISS takes home the cake here. Ke$ha is huge.
WDBR: Far East Movement/Ryan Tedder - Rocketeer
KISS: Eminem/Lil Wayne - No Love
WDBR wins here. Rocketeer is getting quite huge while Eminem does have fire, FM will go top 10.
WDBR: Lady Gaga - Poker Face
KISS: Stopset
WDBR by default.
WDBR: Stopset
KISS: Mike Posner - Please Don't Go
KISS by default.
WDBR: Sara Bareilles - King of Anything
KISS: Mann - Buzzin
Tough one. You have a big Hot AC hit, and a moderate CHR hit vs. a rhythmic single and a gaining CHR single. Mann has hit all over it, I'd think the women would go ahead and give it the go. KISS wins.
WDBR: Crazy Town - Butterfly
KISS: Snoop Dogg/Pharrell - Drop It Like It's Hot
Two novelty golds! Both pretty massive singles. I heard WDBR play Butterfly last night as well, but it is a popular single. Snoop is one you don't hear everyday. KISS wins.
WDBR: Gavin DeGraw - I Don't Want To Be
KISS: Eminem - Mockingbird
WDBR wins this one, but barely. Good to hear some old Eminem especially with all the new stuff he has out. However, Gavin would be the bigger gold.
So KISS wins 11 to 6... KISS pitches their music. WDBR does not... Wouldn't be surprised if WDBR does better with the 25+ audience, but KISS definitely does play the hits. Although, they don't really play much rock, it's all pop and rhythmic stuff. I'd probably have KISS as #1 despite their lousy imaging.
Who's the better station, Springfield listeners?
