Punjabi-Focused Station adds Fremont xltr

MCH Enterprises, a media broker, has been listing a Bay Area translator for many months. I think the original asking price was over $400K, later dropping to $282K. It was just sold for $200K. The translator is K257BE (Los Gatos, etc.) and was used to relay KTRB.

The new owners hold licenses for several California stations (KIID, KLHC, KOBO, KWRU, KCVR) but perhaps none of the stations offers contours covering the South Bay - the solution will be leasing KUFX-HD3 from Bonneville. The signal is only 10 watts ERP but perhaps the new owners might be able to increase coverage as an FM fill-in.

The facility is listed here.

The website is www.punjabiradiousa.com

The confusing part is the ownership is listed as Punjabi American Media LLC on Prada Avenue in Milpitas The "other properties listed" corresponds to stations listed on Punjabi Radio USA LLC's website (e.g, KCVR). This is not the same group as the people behind Radio Punjab (Akal's KIGS, etc.) at RadioPunjab .

I did look at the plot of the KCVR Lodi nighttime contour of 0.5mV/m. It does cover the translator signal area but the daytime contours fall short.

$200,000 for a license for a 10 watt transmitter? Some radio owners sure do like wasting money. Maybe its at a decent elevation to get some kind of coverage that will give them a return. I haven't looked to see.
