Punk'd in Syndication

I see that starting the end of this month, Punk'd is coming to a local independent station in the Boston area, WSBK. I really am surprised about this. I thought it was owned by MTV Networks. Is it coming to any others?

Viacom and its various subsets have been syndicating stuff for a while.

Comedy Central Productions has been syndicating "South Park," "Chappelle's Show" and "Reno 911!"

Not a big surprise... the shock is that people want to watch that garbage.

Punk'd, Cribs and Pimp My Ride are all supposedly in syndication this fall (although my market isn't carrying the latter). You can blame the dearth of TV sitcoms available for syndie this season -- the only new one available is House of Payne.

I don't know about the other two shows, but Punk'd will actually be distributed by Trifecta Domestic Syndication. South Park was first distributed by Tribune Entertainment, but now Twentieth Television handles it now. And Reno 911 is distributed by MGM. Personally, I think Viacom should establish it's own distribution division....

It's nothing new for MTV to syndicate to local stations; they did the same for The Real World in the early 2000's through some outfit called October Moon, though it never worked because everyone had seen the same episodes many times before when MTV did their marathons of the seasons, and they were programmed to air in lousy after-midnight timeslots.

That is ironic, considering that South Park once took a stab at Fox's prized cartoon franchise...

"Simpsons Did It!" ;D
