PURE TORTURE

Had a appointment this morning with a new dentist. Nothing major, just a teeth cleaning, exam, and as it turned out, one little cavity to be taken care of. I sat down in the chair at 8:30. The Doc and assistant didn't come into the room until about 9, and by the time they were done, it was 10:30. And I'm telling you, it was absolutely horrific! Terrible discomfort! Excruciating pain!! I was in agony the entire two hours!! Oh, not because of any dental procedure. Nah, that was nothing. The misery came from being in a room where a certain Dallas station was being piped in and I couldn't do a damn thing about it. No need to identify said station, but it was beyond awful.

Just let me say, having to listen to the Black Eyed Peas twice in less than two hours is torture. I'd rather have a root canal while passing a kidney stone, than to ever, ever, ever have to listen to them again.

And the NFL has signed this "talented" group to perform at half during the Super Bowl???

Uh, 'scuse me. This is Texas. Why not George Strait?? Or Willie??

Or Christmas music. I was at the dentist last week and noticed they had a country station on instead of the usual adult contemporary station. I asked my dentist about it, and he hates Christmas music as much as I do.

Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas. I can even take Christmas music in small doses, but I'll never understand how people listen to that crap for hours on end.

You mean weeks on end now.

Remember when Christmas music was gradually phased into the play list until it was solid through Christmas Eve? Then waa-Laa at noon Christmas day twas back to regular programming.

My dentist's office plays either KEOM or KLTY. Both seem to redefine "dentist office music."

Elevator music, music for the dead, music for blue hairs

Remember when Christmas music actually sounded like Christmas music? This pop stuff is awful. these pop singers need to leave the christmas music up to the professionals. the problem with christmas music on the radio is that they play the same versions of songs over and over. there are literally thousands of great christmas albums, but they will take one or two songs by an artist and wear it out. or play a remake of a classic. for instance, Barry Manilow did a remake of Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters. The Bing version is the one I grew up with and is still my favorite. These remakes of old arrangements ususually fall flat. You never seem to hear the original versions of some of the songs anymore, just bad cover versions by various pop stars and country singers. It wouldn't hurt to play a decent orchestra instrumental or even a choir to lighten things up. but some of these modern christmas arrangements are just plain awful. give me the classics anytime.

We are not in Christmas season. This is Advent. Christmas begins on Christmas Eve and runs through the Feast of the Epipany on January 6th. Remember the 12 Days of Christmas? None of those twelve days has happened yet! Christmas Music should begin to be played on Christmas Eve!

Is that when it begins on 910AM and 850AM?

Roman;

Just consider the bad Christmas music as Advent penance. Let the people enjoy their commercial Christmas, and we'll see you in church Christmas eve.
(Put the Mass back into Christmas?)

Gee, all because I went to the dentist yesterday and was forced to listen to the Black Eyed Peas.

Well, heck. While we're at it, here's my two cents. Xmas music should be played Xmas Eve from 8pm to 8:05pm. That oughta be enough.

I agree, not after Thanksgiving like some of these stations I know.

Nice to see the church calendar. I guess broadcasting goes by the commercial holiday season, sort of, but not quite. I've seen Christmas decorations in stores in September. Radio hasn't gotten that bad, yet.

Maybe you would enjoy an all-Taylor Swift-Christmas station.

Maybe the same dentist I go to. Better though than the last one that had a cable sports channel going on the LCD monitor suspended by an arm in front of me while he did his procedure. I wasn't sure how his attention was being divided. I no longer go to that dentist.

Yes I do and I still program my stations that way.
