The thread on not-so Feinburg got me thinking about the fact that radio in Boston doesn't appear to be attracting new listeners. It is assumed there's an "audience" out there and the cookie cutter brands force-feed whatever small pool of listeners currently exists.
No one smartly goes after the huge crowd at Fenway Park or at a Patriots Game. Why? Because WBCN has the Patriots, Entercom has The Red Sox, and the other corporations don't send Blimps and skywriters over these vast seas of people to try to get them to tune in? Not that there's anything to tune in to.
Ipod drains away the audience - kids today could really care less about radio. What a sin. What a shame.
The Corporations have really found a way to cut out the on-air talent. They just sell hardware.
