Josie DeCarlo, the woman who inspired the main character of "Josie and the Pussycats" passed away last Wednesday.
Decarlo's husband, Dan, was responsible for the creation of Josie McCoy of the Archie comic strip of the same name. The inspiration was said to be rooted from the fact that Mrs. Decarlo once donned a cat-like outfit while on a cruise. An animated series based the the character was popular in the 1970's.
Several interesting trivia bits for those who grew up with the TV series:
1. The woman who voiced the "Josie" TV character, Janet Waldo, is still alive at the age of 88.
2. One of the singers in the musical ensemble formed for the animated series was "Cherie Moor," also known as Cheryl Jean Stoppelmoor and probably better remembered as Kris Munroe in the 1970's series Charlie's Angels. (yes, that's Cheryl Ladd in case you didn't make the connection).
A little more for the pop culture junkies: Here's a link for the Retrospace blog article discussing manufactured bands.
The fifth photo down is a picture of the original Josie & The Pussycats studio group consisting of "Josie" (Cathy Dougher), "Melody" (Cherie Moor / Cheryl Ladd) and "Valerie" (Patricia Holloway, the younger sister of singer Brenda Holloway).
Here's some info about their original JatP LP record, too.
