Put my stream back up

After Loudcaster took a dump, I ran for about a month elsewhere and then decided to dump it because it was costing too much money.

But that urge to keep tinkering never goes away...

Set up on the RadioLoyalty platform, music licensed through Stream Licensing. I'm keeping the expenses lower this time around and setting the station up this time with some opportunities to eventually pay for itself. Comments from the peanut gallery are appreciated.

Do you happen to have any pricing information? Unlike Live365, I wasn't able to find anything posted about what they charge broadcasters using their services.

They're strictly barter. You send them an Icecast MP3 stream at 128k and they host the stream through Jetcast. The catch is that you have to use their player with a pre roll ad and they control the banner and video ads within the player.

You earn a little bit for every pre-roll that plays. You can also earn a little bit more by running some of their inventory during your programming that inserts video ads into their player, but those extra spots are optional and not required.

Marvin at Streamlicensing says that as long as you send up a 128k MP3 stream to RL they will supply a feed to Tunein.com automatically, but I haven't seen that happen yet for me. If you want your stream to appear in iTunes or one of the other directories, you will have to encode a separate stream (or transcode) through a different host - the Jetcast streams from RL only will play through their player and mobile app.

The RadioLoyalty mobile app isn't as refined as others, but it does work and it's available for iPhone, Android, and Blackberry. My stream was available on their mobile app the same day that I put it online. I don't show up yet in their station directory at the main RL website, though.

But otherwise, it's effectively a cheap and easy way to get your stream up and running and potentially get a small amount of revenue. With my stream hosted by RL in exchange for them playing a :30 pre-roll video on the player, my only other expense is with Streamlicensing to cover the rights fees, which is currently a minimum of $22.50/month and a $40 one-time setup... plus I have the opportunity to sell my own inventory within the stream if I am able to do so.

I also use RadioLoyalty. I did get my station on TuneIn by writing to them and telling them that my pop up player should be at http://thelegacyfm.tk and they re routed my station to use the RadioLoyalty pop up player. Plus I called RL and spoke to Hector and had their stream URL added to the TuneIn mobile app. After Today when people start going to work I'll start making $$ with the listeners. I do force pre roll video ads @ 15 minutes afrter every hour by doing a Lenco_30_Help The Legacy and a ad so that my Shou8tCast and iTunes listeners know that they can help The Legacy develop by listening through http://thelegacyfm.tk instead.

My Shoutcast host has changed ip's unannounced to their subscribers so I had to submit an Email to iTunes to have them change the info in their directory. This can take forever so if by next month they don't have it straight I'll be using RadioLoyalty only for the host and StreamLicensing for the royalties. Marvin says he has some surprises he's working on with the royalty board that will make it easier on us broadcasters so this is why I'm an affiliate with StreamLicensing. If you want to save on the fee see my signature and use the URL and discount code and you'll save a little.

I predict that more smart broadcasters will turn to RadioLoyalty for instead of losing money on their stations they can actually earn some. One month I made a profit of over $100 and that was after paying for the Royalties, Transcoder (because I uas LiveWebDJ as a back up with their massive 20 GB to start storage. I now have a station that surpasses what Loudcaster's old business model. And OMG it beats Live365 out of the water.

I can help some with RL as well if you have a question.

I have a question. Is there any limit to the amount of simultaneous listeners that an audio stream on Radio Loyalty can have at one time? Ustream has no limit.

There is NO LIMIT to the number of listeners you can have on RadioLoyalty. And just to make it clear their servers seem to be stable dedicated Icecast servers unlike Listen2myradio, Caster.fm or Freestreamhosting.org (although their servers seem to be getting more stable. This service is not just a dabble in Broadcasting service but a service fit for those serious about Broadcasting and their audience.
