Q 101

When they got rid of Mancow did they really believe their own hype that their music "shuffle" would carry the station?

The same way WCKG can still run with no ratings and WCPT,WIND,Nine FM ... need I go on?

Most of the stations you mentioned don't expect big ratings, secondary AMs and suburban FMs aren't really playing in the same game as major FM signals like WKQX. If they keep up these bad ratings you can **** on them making adjustments, big or small.

As for WCKG. CBS has several low rated FM talk stations across the country. My opinion is that no other company would put up with it. Eventually, although it might be years from now, CBS will finally give up on the FREE FM concept.

Have you seen their male 18-34 and 25-54 demos? If not, you are ignorantly looking at Q101's low 12+ number and making incorrect statements.

Here's the deal folks. WCKG has announced that they are going to make Major cuts to their on air formula. That means that the 2 morons from jersey are outta there!

Steve Dull will either need to learn spanish or how to detail cars cause he is also on the chopping block. No more free rides for that idiot. As for queer 101. That station has always done poorly. The only way they can redeem it is by turning off the transmitter!

Radio in chicago is dead. Period!

I have heard better radio driving through farm country in Indiana. How is it that the 3rd largest radio market can have the worst possible talent in the World!

Go Siriius, Go Howard Stern!!

back to the topic at hand. How long do you think Mike Stern has at the hlem of Q given their non ratings?. True they have a lot less oveerhead with the Cow out to pasture but still they've got to be billing less to. ALtough there were always TONS of adveertisers that would not go near that show that they can probably get now.

Oh really...how do you explain all of the sports stations then?

Sports stations, unlike music FMs, don't need ratings to make money. Sports has one of the highest power indexes (revenue per ratings share) of any format. It's such a specialized format, advertisers know exactly what they are going to get...male sports fans.

I think they got rid of the wrong guy, former APD Jacent Jackson is now PD at WLUM Milwaukee, which is kicking ass in all male demos since a recent relaunch.

Jacent Is a smart guy, and from what i hear on his way out of Milwaukee

;D

Saw a posting on allaccess that Q is looking for a new Creative Services Director. What happened to Ned Spindle? He was there for ages and was one of the best things about that station.

He (Ned Spindle) had contacted a friend of mine about doing some freelance imaging work a few months ago. I bet he's still there but maybe delegating or something.

Now there seems to be more money in freelance imaging work than there is in working for a station. I know many people who have quit their jobs (or been laid off due to budget cuts) and have been better off than ever working out of their own houses.

I hope you mean as in being promoted somewhere and not fired.

NO NO NO as a matter of fact he just had a monster book. I had heard that he was the frontrunner for a gig which he turned down.

VERY TRUE. Think about in these terms: for a market the size of chicago a freelance voice guy imaging a station is pulling down anywhere from 1000 to maybe 1500 per month! So If that same person has ten stations he/she is doing for roughly the samee money more or less, that could amount to a very handsome living for what comes down to not much more than 20-30 minutes work per station per week!. No wonder so many guys are trying to crack that VO nut!

Does anyone know if Q ever plans on streaming? They offer podcasts but I would like to be able to listen live again.
