Q-102 vs Z-100 the Q is bogus

I dont listen to either station, but my sister is a avid Adam Lambert (yuck) die hard fan....Back in October, Z-100 was giving away his tickets to only 40 select people for one day, you had to call in and be the 100th caller to win the few seats for the event in Manhattan. My sister was listening to them on line being in Philadelphia well believe it or not she was one of the winners. This is really odd living in Philly and winning on a NYC station, she was on the air and all that jazz, this is a legit station. Now, for the last week Q-102 was giving away his tickets at the Borgata, you had to be caller 102, the difference was they are giving them away 3 times a day and for the past week. My sister had 4 phones going and was never even in the running, never got through at all, line always busy, how can this be when on a NYC station with millions more listeners and not being in the listening range you can win...this tends me to believe WIOQ is a bogus station with bogus contests.....both are CC owned stations but I think Q-102 is not on the up and up.....just my thoughts....anyone from the Q reading this that has any truthful explanation...

Depends on what time the contest was being held, and what number listeners had to call into.
Also last week q102 played 148 different tracks, so many more than 30.

If you call at the right time then yeah you will win, The contest is not rigged, There is one person in studio responsible for running the show, social networking and phones plus any local production. So when the contests are not running and there is no one to answer the phones they get busied out. Since Elvis is a national show they have a number to call to interact with the show....The local lines are only used for contests, (during the morning show), but I can assure you they are not rigged and the person goes through 102 callers. The times are 7am 11am 4pm and 7pm but they are not Adam Lambert tickets they are The Script tickets...(lambert was last week)... If your listening online there is a huge delay so its doubtful that she won anything while listening online but whatevea Ill take your word for it.

...Z has phone ops (at least 2) Q has one person.

hope that helps

There are a finite amount of listeners in one day. 40 tickets given out in one day means more tickets given out per hour on Z100 than on Q102 that only gives out 3 an hour. The Borgata is also a smaller venue so there are fewer tickets. Also, since Z100 was taking caller 100, the delay means that she would start calling a few seconds later than the NYC listeners. That actually is a fair way to conduct a contest online. The delay on the Internet stream is only about 5 seconds behind the air signal, but that may be because the air signal is delayed by HD and maybe also a profanity delay.

Thanks for all the help and that is what I thought was odd, listening to Z-100 on the net, they gave out 2 tickets perhour for 20 straight hours making the 40 tickets in one day...whereas the Q was giving away 2 tickets 4 times a day for a week...it was hard to believe you could win on a station not in your listening area via the internet where-as being in your home town listening over the air you could not win.....just made you think a bit...

The other issue to consider is Adam Lambert's star power in October compared to when Q gave them away?

What does Q-102 have a 30 song playlist?

LOL..I would say 15. I don't think I've ever seen a more repetitive station ever! Even Kiss 108 here in Boston has a lot more variety than this toilet does

I remember a few years ago Q102 spun its powers 140 times a week.

92.3 Now FM spun its powers 160 times a week in its first month and only played around 20 unique songs in its first week. I could predict what song they would play with reasonable accuracy.

And yet their ratings are higher than they have been in a long time. A true CHR is not designed for people to listen for 2-4 hours. It's designed to give listeners the best of the best whenever they tune in, with an average time spent listening of 20-30 minutes. it must be working.

Q102 cumes around 1.2-1.3 million -- how many phone lines do they have? 10 or 20 at most? Your Z100 contest win was a fluke.

That 1.2 million is unique listeners over an entire month. The number of listeners listening at any given time isn't anywhere close to that.

But the idea that a station is faking its contests because you didn't win is ludicrous.

Does contest information have to be placed in the public file? If so, you can look at the public file yourself.

Don't waste your time looking at the public file.

All Q102 needs to be "legit" is one phone line that's a local call from someone in its city of license. I'm sure they have more.

Think of it this way: if Q102 was doing a bogus contest, they would be risking fines and an investigation from the FCC, a trememdous amount of bad PR, ammo for 96.5 to use, and Clear Channel would get a huge black eye. Clear Channel employs teams and teams of lawyers to make sure everything is done by the books. You didn't win tickets because you couldn't get through. Case closed!

But what's to say that contests can't be rigged? A station could claim to give out $10000 to caller 102, and fake a phone call from the "winner" on the air, and also fake documentation that the prize was awarded. It's doubtful anyone would ever complain about a contest. Has any station ever been busted for rigging a contest?

I'm surprised you guys are counting 93.7 WSTW out. It looks like they play a lot more variety than Q102 and Z100. They play a lot more older songs, and I think almost everything is local. Does WSTW have any syndicated programming at all?
