Q 105 #1 Station in Tampa Bay?

I was listening to Q 105 this morning and Mason said that Q 105 was #1 in the market, how can that be if WDUV is #1? If you don't know,I someday want to work for Mason(My Dream/Goal)!

To paraphrase Dean Martin, "Everybodys Number One Sometime"...You can massage the numbers like an Asian therapist, and find a category/demographic where you are number one.

Secondly, with CBS Radio targeting some of its heritage stations for change, trumpeting your accomplishments...massaged or not....might keep you employed for awhile longer...

Ask the former CBS oldies stations in Chicago and NYC whether ratings matter. Somthing about they dont know Jack......

ANYONE can say #1... even if you are last in every ratings category.

If you start saying "Arbitron rated #1" you could have an issue.

But if I think my station kicks ass, I can say we're #1 all day and night.

It's the basics of marketing.

Same with the phrase "Doctor recommended #1." They didn't say it was the "most recommended by doctors. Just that we think we are the best brand that is ever recommended by a doctor. <P ID="signature">______________

Don't be ridiculous- of course you can't. Marketing/spinning is one thing. Bald-faced lies would be met with swift FTC action (if anybody had the stones to turn you in, like me). You don't even have to say "Arbitron" or "ratings" for Arbitron to call you on misrepresentation when it comes to ratings or market rank (after all, they ARE the company that measures that stuff).

In the past, I've actually called competitors (and copied Arbitron) on this sort of thing before and in almost every case, they've backed down (like making false claims about commercial count, music count, ratings performance).

You can't say it just because you believe it and not expect to get slapped hard for doing it.
