Q-96; easy way to increase signal

Since there seems to be no hurry to restore audio to the Miguel booster, try this. Transfer the 150-250 watt TX from Miguel to the Campo
site. With antenna gain (X4) ERP s/b between 600-1000 watts. A BIG increase from the existing wheezer signal.
Fixing the T-1 requires some standard fault isolation techniques, which can narrow down the location of the line failure in a matter of hours.
Basic stuff for any Telco, except maybe "T1's R Us"....

In theory, good. but KyXy 96.5 and KUSS-FM 95.7 short spacing. Plus both stations HDRadio would splatter and that would ruin the two folks who listen via that way.

Q-96 has done such a terrible job at building an audience, how do they expect that frequency succeed? They moved to a medium-large size market with a lousy signal that make the Tijuana stations look like powerhouses, no PR/Marketing/Advertising/Promotions, and have now been "out of service" for about a month. Great... why are we supposed to switch from Channel 9-3-3 and Z 90 again?

This all reminds me a little of 760 KFMB.... I have come to learn that in this digital world where the audience has so many choices, terrestrial radio has to become "appointment radio." If you fail that, you are dooming your station.. When your station becomes "appointment radio," the advertisers will follow.

760 KFMB comes off as a college station...no real reason to listen unless you are a super right-winger. And running Phil Hendrie in the evenings starting out with his last hour is plain weird, notwithstanding that Phil Hendrie is getting kind of dog-earred.

Several of the Tijuana stations are powerhouses, having been grandfathered in at class C power levels and height.

Q96 is a mess. If another CHR was needed (which IMO I would like to see 9-3-3 get some competiton) leave it to the geniuses at CBS Radio (even though their two stations do very well).

I can understand 96.1 to 96.3 or 95.9 being short spacing, but why would 96.1 to 95.7 or 96.5 be short spacing unless they were using the same tower?  Don't radios exist with good enough selectivity to separate them?  I have a small Tecsun PL-380 that I got new off ebay for $70 shipped (and it should be available for less now) that if it wasn't for many of the locals running IBOC, I probably could get L.A. FM stations on the immmediate adjacents to many of the locals.  In fact, IIRC (although I rarely listen to FM - I'm mostly into AM in spite of not even being 30 yet - FM stations can't be heard far enough for me except with tropo or e-skip) due to my distance to some stations, I think I CAN hear first-adjacents off some of the local IBOC FMs (except for KPBS which is about 4+ miles south of me). Sure, in many cases the signal won't even lift the digital S-meter or SNR meter off the "0" peg, but that doesn't mean the signal isn't there.

They're not running that station for the sake of building an audience. They're running it to try to find a buyer.

Kind of like flipping houses.

Yeah, but when you flip a house, the idea is to make it into an attractive mansion, not a burned out shack with roaches and holes in the roof!

Kind of like flipping houses.

That has been their plan from day one as written here and elsewhere. Except that the ownership was expected to be different.

You know the best thing they could do (to quote a brilliant broadcaster) is at this point is "turn it off and save the power bill"!!

When they want to demonstrate it for potential buyers turn it back on!!

Houses have a stick value, too: the underlying lot. You can raze the house, and the lot still has value.

In the case of this station, the only value is stick value.

I received this email from Cherry Creek Radio:

Good Morning,

We are currently running our main at full power. However, due to the topography of southern California the main does not cover the San Diego area without the booster. We are also exploring additional options to increase our coverage in San Diego.

Thank you!

Haven't heard from Mr. Driskill about all this. He is THE contact listed on the sign at the KSIQ transmitter fence....
