Q for Holland Cooke.....

Hi Holland, I've heard you refer to the "Big Three" for syndicated Daytime programming:

Beck - Limbaugh - Hannity

Quite the daytime lineup.

Just curious, what would you consider the best syndicated nighttime lineup? What are the big shows for evenings/nights 6PM to 6AM?

What would be the "killer lineup" for nights?

Would it include Coast to Coast?

Thanks!

I'm nowhere near the expert Holland is, but I think Coast to Coast is pretty much a given. I'd imagine Savage and/or Levin would be there as well.

Misquote!
I call 'em "The (Un)holy Trinity."
:)

RE What's best for nights? Tough to be objective, since I did nights, live and local, for a long time on a great station.

But -- like what's-the-best-option-for ANY hour or daypart -- WHERE?
What's best is situational...what works for that station, in that competitive situation.

Radio sure oughtta be more than grazing the satellite salad bar.

Good evening from Las Vegas, where I'm attending-and-covering-for-Talkers magazine the Blogworld New Media Expo. The first day-and-a-half anyway. MAJOR MOJO as a couple thousand podcasters and bloggers convene. Once a shadow media, now mainstream.

Friday, I head back East for Dave Ramsey's arena event in Raleigh, which my client stations are sponsoring. Never seen it, but hear it's Anthony Robbins-esque.

Ah, there are no simple questions for a consultant, are there? ;-)

Let's say it's a station in a generic medium market.....that's live all day...and can only afford to do syndication after 6 or 7PM. The UN-holy trinity is unavailable in the market.

What's the best nighttime lineup? Is there an un-holy trinity for nights? ;-)

I know Savage does well in some places....but it appears he's an "aquired taste". I know people rave about Cost2Coast....but, you know, that show never interested me personally.

Are there any killer lineups for stations that need/want to do syndication at night?

What interests you personally should have little to do with this, if you're trying to look at this from an objective viewpoint.

Coast is THE overnight show. Midnight Trucking Network (or whatever it's called now) is there, but that's pretty niche. I really like Citadel's Red Eye Radio, but it's too new to really know how well it's going to do.

I'm trying to....that's why I went to The Source! ;-)

Is this a regionalism?

What does it mean when Glenn Beck goes into that lower-your-voice-for-the-stopset delivery for the Goldline spot at says "PRAY ON IT?"

Does he mean pray-ABOUT it?
Does he mean ask-God-if-you-should-buy-gold?

So...who would be the next ""The (Un)holy Trinity" after Beck-Rush-Hannity?

Who's the next tier?

Thanks!

Free Talk Live is certified unholy. :D

Holland: sorry for the derail, but curious, what were your thoughts on the Ramsey event? Do you ever consult him?

RE: "your thoughts on the Ramsey event? Do you consult him?"

As my USA Today boss used to say, "I'll answer your second question first."

RE "Do you consult him:" Via Ramsey-affiliated client stations, I work WITH Dave, but I don't work FOR him.

7 or 8 years ago, Dave said THE-most-flattering-thing someone-can-say-to-a-consultant: "What advice would you offer me?"

He had reached out to me in-advance-of the R&R Talk Radio Seminar, which, year-after-year, he DOMINATED in-terms-of venue visibility, but didn't always attend in-person. That year, he made it. He and I and Team Ramsey's top-two lieutenants had a great cuppa cawfee, and talked, with near-religious fervor, about what's-right-and-wrong-with what-comes-out-the-speaker. If only more radio station owners shared that passion today, eh?

RE Ramsey event: Two weekends ago, we (clients WPTF/WSJS) put 9000 people in the RBC Center in Raleigh, and you'd've thought it was Anthony Robbins. I'd not seen Dave's live "Total Money Makeover" event and HAD TO.

NOTE: 9000 is NOT a misprint. Beck & O'Reilly put 3000 people in-the-round and it's a big crowd for them.

HOW bad did I want to see Ramsey live? I go to a dozen conventions a year, so I'm a tough grader. And I LOVE the vibe at Blogworld New Media Expo, which just drew 4000 people to Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas. This was the 6th annual, and I haven't missed ONE. But this year, I could only stay for Thursday and 2 sessions on Friday, before I had to jump on a plane to Raleigh, and arrive after midnight, to be vertical again in-time-to get to the arena by 10, to beat the throng for Ramsey's 1PM start.

It was worth it.
Ramsey rocks.
And reminds us that there's-one-WHOLE-helluvalot-to-talk-about other than "Democrats, bad; Republicans, good."

Don't know if you were one of the hosts last night, but that one caller you guys had speaking in "code" about "permanent prostitution contracts" would probably agree with you on this.

As for Ramsey, I think he's at the head of a type of radio that will only get bigger. He's doing advice talk for the people who also listen to the back and forth political stuff.
