Q Movin?

107.5 is running a teaser that says "Q107.5 is moving Wednesday at 7:20"
i just looked at the playlist from LA and it seems identical to what 107.5 already plays.

Say it with me: "THIS IS ONLY A STUNT".

No way Karson and Kennedy would say they are going to a meeting and then suddenly be jockless with an "announcement" at 7:00 the next day. They'd just get pulled, and it would already be Movin'.

I smell All-American Rejects tickets. They do have a song called, "Move Along", and they are coming to Memphis. A lot of hype, for a crap-tacular payoff.

Interesting...

If, arguendo, they are not going with "Movin'" (and would the consultant confirm if they actually were?), they need to be careful. A well-schooled Trademark attorney could make some hay with this possible stunt.

Of course, it is far from certain the TM holder would prevail for reasons far too esoteric to discuss here, but, if I were WHBQ-FM, I would tread lightly. But, that's just me; what do I know?

I don't think anyone at WHBQ-FM knows the meaning of the word "tread", unless it reffered to the condition of the Q-Bug's tires. ;D

Seriously, I don't think they would have a problem with this. Otherwise, Burns could sue every traffic reporter in America who said something like: "Traffic is movin' along on I-55", etc. The way they'd get busted, IMHO, is if they appropriated the phrase as part of their station name, and used the "Movin'" logo. If anything, Burns folks were probably watching to see what was going on, and chimed in by saying this is not one of their launches, just in case. If they really wanted to do the format at WHBQ (which I doubt), they could...just change the name to something like "Rhythm 107.5", or "107.5 The Party".

Oh, my mistake. I didn't realize you were a lawyer, Mr. King.

You are forgetting one very important item; Would Skinflint Flinn pay the pricey marketing rights that Burns & Associates is asking.

We all know he's got the money, spends it wherever he wants or what tickles his fancy. Like the luxurious studios he has on Mt. Moriah, or the garage studio of Hot. Nice touch.

No, but I've been sued before. A lot. ;D

It's just an educated opinion, DE. Didn't know we weren't allowed to have those. I'll make a note of it.

Announced they're MOVING Christmas to Tunica with a Jingle Jam concert. decent line up

They certainly get more attention on this board than Arbitron diaries. I saw an interesting post about the Memphis ratings that showed Q-107 in 5th place 18-34. Certainly not enough sugar water money to get that deep. You're left with niteclubs and pager companies.

I am certainly not a Flinn apologist, but, I am not sure I agree with your premise.

First, a caveat: I have only seen limited ratings – basically what is available here and on R&R Online. That being said, one has to wonder if 107.5 is doing about as well as one can expect, all things considered. This is a class A with a transmitter all the way on the eastern side of the metro. The City Grade (70 dBu) only just barely makes it inside the I-240 loop; the 1 mV/m (60 dBu) only skirts Downtown. Problem – big problem. Signal issues are massively frustrating.

So, one has to be realistic with such a signal-impaired station. Being the top-of-the-heep is simply not an option for this station.

Now, I am sure there is a particular member on this Board who might argue that his superior programming has been the key to WHBQ’s numbers; but others might argue that his big signal compared to 107.5’s would allow a PD to phone-in a win.

But, what do I know?

DE

DE I agree

I think present day Q sounds better than Kiss did and it appears more people in Memphis think so also...
Q both programmed and immaged very well
Q is very visible in the city (some stations are you only know exist if your scan stops on them)

i know that some years ago, they tried to improve the signal, but where the site was for increased power - it didn't do anything but make it worse, if that's possible. the site itself was pretty crappy.

you can only do so much with that signal, especially with one of your sister stations 2nd adjacent in the market; and down the hall too.

and with CT back in the building, who knows what will happen.

good stuff i hope. i have friends who work/live there.

;)
