Q100/99.7 studio question

I can't exactly answer your question, but while they have been joking about packing up and moving, Melissa (of The Bert Show) posted in her recent blog entry (http://blog.melissatimes.com/2008/01/16/sometimes-a-square-in-a-round-hole.aspx) on Leslie Fram: "to move into her physical seat in that studio next week is bittersweet." I took that to mean they really would be moving into the 99X studio.

By writing "...and to move into her physical seat in that studio next week is bittersweet", it would indicate they are making a physical move ("that" studio)...

All that's required would be to move two T1 feeds about eight inches and the current studios would simply feed the other transmitters. There's a rumor that a new studio was to be built... the place was designed so a lounge could be made into one large or two medium studios by adding one or two sound walls.
Mr. Weiss had compaigned mightly for a studio dedicated solely to The Bert Show, perhaps he has the clout now to have his way.

For anyone who has been in both studios: Are they the same size? And is Q moving into the old 99X studio or staying put?

I interned at Q many moons ago....the studios are identical. Although, I could swear (but cannot verify for sure) that the console in the existing Q studio is a couple inches LOWER than the console in the "old" 99x studio.

Maybe Bert can use a booster seat in the new studio.

If the console is lower, ity's because the risers were cut downin the last two years. The furniture came from the guy in Philly who makes it for stations. The equipment was the same, and the size was the same, but the (Original) X studio is on a corner, the Q on a wall. Original consoles were Digital Airwaves, they've since added a couple of Wheatstone surfaces. The Airwaves were incredible - bulletproof and they sounded good... but weren't expandable. The Wheatstone product - and all the router based worksurfaces - are a lot more flexible.

They are switching studios.

Since everything is supposedly the same (except for the view), I don't understand why the move? Seems like it would be easier just to bring the new station in where 99x vacated and let Q stay where they're at, since "nothing is changing except the frequency."

I assume 99x will be run by computers and a production studio?

I'll second that. Is the view from the ex-99X studio that much better? If it is a matter of swapping a couple of T1s, then why not just swap a couple of T1s? :)

Just a wild guess here... But maybe they're swapping studios for a boost to the morale of the Q100 crew? Sort of a daily visual reminder that they did so well at 100.5, they've been promoted to the 100kw signal.

I remembered the sound difference, unless they have been changed, there are different makes of mic hung in the two studios. Likely why the talent sounds different. Let's see if they swap them also... or play around with the proc amps.
