Q100 Beats Star for First Time Ever

Cindy and Ray are in like flynn...and are not going anywhere..... As one of the first to have helped launch the beast, I say..... Go Mighty Q!!!!

Despite the lack of budget, Cumulus is celebrating...believe me.

Star's actually smart to lean more Top 40- as long as Jan Jaffries is running the show at Cumulus CHRs, Star has a chance to really show Atlanta what a big city CHR is supposed to sound like. WSTR is slowly but surely evolving in the right direction, and the new morning show is the right fit for a younger audience. If anything, Star needs to cut down on the amount of talk/chatter in afternoon drive.

There's no denying that Q-100 has some great personalities in all dayparts, that they have the better imaging, and that they still sound more CHRish at night, but with Cumulus philosophy on the music the station is vulnerable.

In the meanwhile, Star 94 will continue to go downhill. Here is how I see it:
-----------------------
The sound quality is going downhill (one day the station sounds like it is broadcasting from the bottom of a metal barrel, the next it sounds fine, and the day after that the sound of the music will be so soft that you have to crank up the radio, this is after the commericals are at normal volume), so the bad engineering will send people to Q100. In a few months, the station sounds like they are broadcasting the sounds of power tools over the music. The engineers have quit caring.

After reading this I called a friend to verify what you said, here is the dope: she knows that the engineers do not adjust the processing that is handled in the programming department.

Dan Bowen makes the changes with the help of one his production guys.

If Star becomes "Power 94", does that mean that 7 years later they will become 94X? Inside would be happy to see that. But how would that affect Q100?

7 years? who can wait that long. by that time everythngs that new now would be playing already on the oldies station.

That's what I've been saying about Star's afternoon drive for a long time; they need to cut down on talk. But, it's really hard to argue that after this book, in which they had stellar ratings in PMD but nowhere else.

I don't agree that Q100 has better imaging. But, that's a matter of personal taste.

Star has better imaging but the message is unclear. Q100 on the other hand imaging isn't as steller but you know what they are .... the Bert Show in the morning and ten-in-a-row every hour.

Atlanta's #1 hit music station? Caller 10, I know what's happening. You're on the phone calling in to win something, and you miss the message.

Star 94's imaging is hot, which is appropriate for a lot of the time (not sure about afternoon drive). They've just changed the top of the hour so that the jock speaks over the music bed in the jingle. Tripp West sounded really great with the new TOH today.

Star's recently updated imaging sounds AMAZING. I do wish they'd condense some of the wording sometimes, but in terms of how it is produced and how it sounds, absolutely remarkable. The ReelWorld One jingles are fantastic, and I'm interested to hear how the (already-hot) TOH sounds with the jock talking it up.
