Q100 update?

Hi ATL board. I've been busy all day doing stuff and have not had time to keep up with news, was Q100 affected while I was away doing other things?

The only thing I'm aware of lately with 99.7 is they run something with their image voice that says (I'm paraphrasing) "If you can't have a radio at work, turn your computer into Q100". This is a worrisome suggestion in my opinion since I'm scared my computer would be infected with Rob Thomas malware, replacing all audio files and sound events on my computer with snipets of Rob Thomas and Matchbox 20 songs.

This is why I am thankful that I have been working in Hall and Jackson counties this week so I can eavesdrop on Entercom's WFBC B93.7 in Greenville, SC. They play a straight-ahead playlist of top 40 hits. It's a good change from the hot AC Rob Thomas tendencies of Q and Star. I am exhausted of hearing Buck Cherry, Rob Thomas, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gavin Degraw, and Maroon 5 every hour.

This is very distressful as no one has answered my question. See, Q99.7 is so important that it's reached a point where my emotions vicariously change based on Q100. Everything affects it, you know. So how is Q100 at 99.7 feeling today? What's affecting it? Wow, 100,000 watt signal at 99.7, Q must feel pretty powerful.

Q99.7 feels much better than 99Xcrement did, but Q will feel even better when Obama signs an executive order to make each hour 75 minutes, so they can play 15 more minutes of Rob Thomas per hour.

Speaking of which...I was at the Rob Thomas concert on Wednesday. All Q100 had was a table and two people. They weren't even playing the radio station, which they usually do at other concerts, and they didn't hold any silly contests. They also didn't give anything away. There was just a table and two Q100 staffers holding a contest for a car. On the other hand, Star 94 was missing entirely. (They also were a no shows at the No Doubt concert in June).

I was expecting a marching band to come down Peachtree Street in front of the "Fabulous" Fox Theater followed by a chorus singing their love for Rob Thomas, put together by Q100 and Cumulus. Neither happened, and Q100's promotional presence was the smallest of the three concerts I went to this year (Katy Perry, No Doubt, and Rob Thomas).

Detroit now has a traditional top 40 station!! Now, we need Atlanta to do the same!!!!
Obviously Jazz is not a successful format at this period in time. Goodbye Jazz in Detroit, and HELLO HITS!

Will 95.5 be able to remain #1 in Detroit with 98.7?

I'm happy for them, but now I'd love to see this happen in Atlanta! Unlike Detroit, Atlanta doesn't have a rhythmic that also touches quite a bit on top 40 alternative, unless The Beat started playing Kings of Leon and I don't know it. There's definitely more room in Atlanta for what I believe Detroit is going to have as of today!

By the way Kings of Leon are HUGE! All London AND American top 40's can't ignore it. I'm sure Q and Star are heavy on it.

I was thinking the same. Would CBS pull the plug on 92.9 DAVE in favor of 92.9 AMP RADIO? Considering im an Urban radio fan, I still love the Top 40 stations that has that party sound to it. Q100 was that station years ago, but now they're all over the place. STAR 94 was never a chocie for me. Not so sure how DAVE is doing in ratings, but CBS has launched 3 Top 40 stations so far under AMP and NOW brands. Cumulus is also on that trend with the "i" format.

CBS Radio would bring a great Top 40 to Atlanta, if they were to do it.
Don't forget they also took San Francisco's Rhythmic AC Movin 99.7 to CHR/Pop, and tweaked Rhythmics B-96 Chicago and 98.5 KLUC Las Vegas more towards CHR/Pop. All this in the past year along with 97.1 Amp Radio L.A., 92.3 Now New York, and of course the new 98.7 amp Radio Detroit.
Atlanta's WXGC has lost over a share in the past few months and is down to a 2.4.

I don't want to criticize any station, but I do have to admit I can understand why someone would say this. It's not really a horrible station... and I think it should exist, but it should co-exist with a traditional top 40, or even better, a station with the party station sound (which is what I grew up with,or enjoyed most growing up). To have two stations almost Identical to the WSTR format is a bit too much, especially when something else is lacking. It would be interesting to have a traditional top 40 and then having The Beat as Atlanta's Party Station, with live hype jocks, mixshows...etc. The best party formats I know of have been WiLD 94.9 San Fransisco, Power 96 Miami, Power 106 LA, and of course, 103.9 Arizona's Party Station (before they went rock and tried to be a party station playing rock.... extreme chr as they called it..) Now, we have the latin rhythm stations trying to claim the party name (well, at least it has happened in the west coast with the latin rhythm/Hispanic/Hurban formats).

Star*94... Well, when it came to certain things I wanted to hear in the 90's, I pretty much had no other choice at the time but to sit there and hope "well maybe today it will... ok then maybe tomorrow....." but as a kid I didn't know much better. Now I see how foolish I was to think and wish that one day WSTR would become like KPWR or WPOW. I didn't touch Star once when I came back to Atl in 2001, but that was the time I was HEAVILY in to the dirty south bounce sounds of Drama, Pastor Troy, D.S.G.B, Miracle, Ludacris, Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz...etc., The Dungeon Family, and of course whatever booty bass was still remaining. and Hot 107.9 provided a lot of that. Also, 95.5 The beat had some good dance mixes on Fri or Sat nights, and Q hadn't started their Saturday night Q yet.

I was into the urban format... up until around 1996-1997 or so when ay bay bay and soulja boy and other similar dance move songs started popping up. They've kind of disappeared from dominating the charts now, but... I'm not sure if I can get back into the (current) urban/hip hop format as much I used to be again. Classic hip hop should pop up in Atlanta at some point also, now that I think of it.

Anyway, to wrap up, I'll just say I am glad I did have the chance to grow up with a station like Star, since now because of that, when anything lacks, I can still have things to listen to, get used to it, and enjoy it if it is similar to the mid 90's Star. It worked out for me when I worked at JC Penney since that style was all they played in the store.
