Q100 vs. Star 94: Club Spots

Listening to Q100 ... especially the closer one gets to the weekend ... one cannot help but notice the high volume of club spots ... Vision, 1150, Compound, Club Europe ... but I don't seem to notice club spots at all on Star. Am I correct or am I just not listening to Star close enough? Is there that huge a gulf in lifestyle between the 20-something single listeners of Q100, and the hot moms of Star 94?

And speaking of "hot moms", where does Nudge go to party? Does he go over to Vickie Locke's house on Sunday afternoon and drink hot tea at 4 o'clock?

I've been told by one of the local station sales managers that Vision was Q100's largest advertiser, spending in excess of $1 million a year. So Vision's closing might temporarily hurt Q100 as well as other stations, such as Hot 107-9.

that was going to be my 2nd question ... appox. what percentage clubs as advertisers contribute to Q's bottom line.

The owners of Vision just bought COMPOUND and are building a brand new club to rival Vision. They will continue to spend with Q. Also - STAR doesn't do clubs because it's not their scene, and I'm not sure what club wants them either - not the best image. Another reason they are not "really" a true TOP 40.

Revenue from nightclubs is what every station strives for? ::) Yeahhhh.

The truth is, clubs come and go. Club owners, as a rule, are snakes and aren't dependable for payment.

I love your criteria for a "True Top 40." The KIIS-FM's, Z-100's, KRBE's etc, of course are all judged on their inventory of those coveted "Club spots." Laughable.

Yeah that's exactly what I said, wow you're brilliant - try reading before posting. Club owners are snakes and they do come and go - totally agreed. I was NOT refering to revenue when I spoke of STAR not being a TRUE top 40. KISS, Z and KRBE all our out and doing club nights at least one night a week. Most Top 40's DO.

Does anyone remember Nikki Nite, who did evenings at Star 94 for a while? When she wasn't renewed, word was she was too much into clubs on the air for Star's liking.

Maybe Nikki was hanging too much with Suzi at offical Q100 club events?

I'm sure Nudge goes home and has a nice glass of warm milk on weekends before his hot mom tucks him into bed.

Q100, V103 and HOT 10.79 were the only stations AG Entertainment advertises with. The VISONZ crowd will be over at the COMPOUND soon. I'm sure it'll be HOT 107.9 Tuesday and Thursdays, V103 Fridays and Q100 Saturdays. As far as club spots goes in ATL, HOT 107.9 and Q100 seems to be the true party stations in town! I don't know what happened to 95.5 THE BEAT.

Club money is exactly the same color as Ford dealeer money... it spends just fine.
As advertisers, however, clubs fall into the same catagory as preachers: Money Up Front. Certified or cashier's check, please. Or, we'll be pleased to run the schedule >after< your paper clears the bank.

Money talks... BS walks. But behind the $$$$... what does running a lot of club spots do for the image of the station? Fine if you are only going for 18-24 chicks.

And who actually pays attention to club spots if you're outside that age group (and go to a club, there are more than 18-24W there), or for that matter, any spots?

Unless you're talking about porn spots running in AM Drive on the Fish...its stupid and pointless to talk about a station's image because of the spots they run. Radio is a way to deliver a message to consumers. Club consumers listen to CHR...it fits.

Gee thanks for referring to my coment as "pointless and stupid". I guess you are the smart one so i will just shut up and wait for your smart and on-target comments.
