Q100 WQQQ - 25 Years Later

Geez...has it really been a quarter of a century since WQQQ flipped to Q100?

It will be in April.

I'd love to hear from any of the old Q-crew... ;D

25 years ago I was an enthusiastic WZZO listener. Gener Romano was the man! My how things have changed. In regards to Q-100 I recall listening to TNT at night in my friend's car on the way to the mall on tuesdays to buy Billboard Magazine. That was a ritual. Billboard came out on tuesdays and we would go top the Mall bookstore to buy it. I think it was Waldens.

I worked at WQQQ for a few years.... back when it was Beautiful Music (99.9FM.... WQ....Q.........Q). I think the "Christian" you are thinking about is JJ Christian....and I think he's now with either the online WAEB or maybe at 1470? Nice man.... haven't seen him in ages.

It was a good place to work, great camaraderie... and we were community focused and entirely local (as much as Beautiful Music Radio could be... news... PSA's and such). My time there was back in the early, and then the late 70's.

The day we went from 13,000 to 50,000 watts was memorable.... talk about a major cluster!!!!

Ahhh...memories!

Johnny Walker checking in here. BTW JJ Christian has been working as a contract broadcast engineer , with Steve Boyer's company. Known one time as Sage Communications operating out of CC office. I think JJ's last airshift was Saurday Mornings on B-104 maybe about 10 tears ago. (or less) I recall that JJ did most of the big time climbing tower business

Not to doubt you that JJ may be off the air.. but I'm almost positive I heard him within the past year ... and since I don't listen to internet radio at all, I'd be willing to bet it was 1470 or 1320 or something. Maybe he picked up some part time work for a while.

I knew Steve Boyer... good honest hard working man. The KING of the aluminum box and rub-on lettering! If you know Steve... ask him about the FFCS-1 at WQQQ !!!!

Cheers!

When you mention Q100, you can't forget Uncle Bob in the morning. I know he watches these boards, and I'm still trying to locate my copy of "Zitbusters".

Before Q100, J.J. Christian did Top 40 on sister station, WEEX. In the past year, he's been heard voice-tracking on WAEB AM 790 when they brought back Oldies for a day to pimp their website. J.J. had two runs at Q100, he briefly left for a radio job in Akron, OH before returning in the late 80s.

Awwww..Q100....that was my favorite station, and one of the reasons I'm on the air today!!!! Anyone remember Mick Ryder? Hehe.

Gotta tell you ... I don't recall "Mick" Ryder... I DO remember "Rick" Ryder at WAEB in about 1977. He did the 6pm-midnite show, then left to program a station in Manchester, NH. Nice man... seemed decent enough. I did his news for several months.

The "Mick" I remember from WQQQ was Mick Hagerty... he was the eventual programmer at WEEX/WQQQ (as much as you can program the automated FM). Mick died not too long back. He's one I miss.

Yes Rick Ryder was PD @ WFEA in Manchester, NH and worked in the Lehigh Valley.

Mick Ryder is a completely different person who did airwork on WSBG & Q-100 and is involved in a number of internet adventures. Last I heard he was supervising broadcast engineering for Nassau

Thank you! Glad someone remembers him! LOL. I still hear from him from time to time.

Heard from Bob several years ago. Had an Internet thing called "Angry Media Guy" or something similiar on the left coast.

Tried to search for him. Found this: http://www.naymz.com/search/bob/pagani/457565

And this: http://www.poynter.org/article_feedback/article_feedback_list.asp?id=52802

I'm sure he checks these boards from time to time...

Speaking about "Zitbusters"....Uncle Bob's little attack on Z-95 done to the tune of "Ghostbusters...on the Top10 at 10....it was "ordered" by the GM to be #1 !!

And speaking of the original "Ghostbusters"....one morning I was tuned into the Q and PD/Mid-days guy Dave Dillon had inadvertantly left his mike open and was discussing the F****** Ghostbusters song with someone...even though music was playing you could hear it very clearly

Greetings Bob, "Johnny", and to All.

It's J.J. Christian. A friend sent me here after seeing my name. I'm an enginer in Whitehall (Allentown) PA for Clear Channel Radio, and I did do some voice tracking in the past year for WAEB-AM790 when we played "Oldies" over hoilday weekends. Nice memory Bob! I also do some PT work for Steve Boyer's old company with some colleges and other commercial stations. Steve is by the way, semi-retired in New Mexico.

It's still an enjoyable business, though not as wild as it was in the 70's, right Mr Farrow? If the walls could talk we'd be in trouble.

Mickey, Joey and Carl are all now sadly gone, but many of us "oldtimers" remain. I'm still in contact sporatically with several like Big John, Mick Ryder, Mark Steven Clifford, and even Sy Marsh.

God's Blessings to you all.

J.J.

JJ - John..... It's great to hear from you. I'm glad to hear Steve is enjoying his life. We lost touch long ago, but I still recall he was smart, hot-headed, and had one hell of a fastball!!! See? I TOLD you I heard JJ on the air! And you thought I was hearing voices!

JJ... send me a message and I'll drop you an email. I'm still here in the valley. And... let's be glad those walls CAN'T talk! Remember the FFCS1 on the WQQQ automation? And... "Here's the latest news from 99.9.....STEREO fmmmmmmmmmmmmm......." Q-News-notes?

Bob
