Q101.9, 94-1 KTFM and Magic 105.3

I've notice Q101.9 changing up their playlist. Today I heard The Cure-Friday I'm In Love, No Doubt- It's My Life, and Pink- Who Knew. Great songs but the Imaging needs to be updated. It still has the sound of a Soft Rock station.

94.1 KTFM has finally dumped most of disco crap and has really focus on Old Skool Hip Hop, R&B, & Dance artists from 80's, 90's, with a mix of today artists like Fergie and Justin Timberlake. IMO, KTFM sounds 10x better than it did 2007. I've also attended some of their events at Industry, Bonham Exchange, and WWW. The crowds at those events has definitely increased.

Magic 105.3-Not much has changed. The music remains the same. Maybe something will change when 2010 comes around.

BTW, interesting article on the Movin/Rhythmic AC format-

Sounds like Q is going up against Magic. Those songs are heard on Magic as well.

Finally, KTFM sounds like they are doing something right. I guess disco is finally dead.

As for Magic, maybe they can go back to a 60s-80s format and put oldies back on KONO.

I'll just take a listen when I roll into town in a few weeks.

I've never heard Magic play The Cure. Anyhow, you can add The Black Crowes- Hard To Handle and Green Day- Boulevard Of Broken Dreams to Q101-9 playlist. Sounds like the new PD is making some changes at Q101-9.

Magic has played The Cure's Just Like Heaven. With the exception of Jack, I have never heard The Cure on any SA station except for Magic.

Could be. But they would have to take the Jazz out first

There is nothing wrong with Disco music, just repeative playlists, put some funk in it, please like Barkays, Cameo, not only Rick James. They should add Teddy Pendergrass, Frankie Beverly and Maze, some of Zapp and Rogers slow jams. again back to the expanding of playlists.

Ownership rules prohibit that. You can't have 2 simular sounding Country stations, rock, or oldies owned by the same company. This is why the Armadillo had to flip to smooth jazz Y-100 played todays country and so did the Armadillo, it wasn't until 1993 this law existed. I know in the 80s you had KTFM and KTSA both play top40, and owned by the same company. In Houston it was 93Q and Hot 79Q both ran by the same company, with the same format.

One of them would have to go Rythmtic Oldies, Urban Oldies, Country Oldies, or Spanish Oldies. Then they could be the crappy 105.3 the point the worst of the 80s and then some. (don't give them any ideas on that one) The Country and Spanish Oldies would have a rival station not owned by them.

They only other holes to fill would be Urban AC, Smooth Jazz, Alternative Rock, Tejano, or dinasour Lite AC.

The could put another Classic Hits and go head to head with Jack.

I'll just take a listen when I roll into town in a few weeks.
