i am not convinced that XRT would adjust their music much. the have a formula that is working for them. I am not convinced that Q101 listensers would go over there. they might sample XRT, and not on a regular basis. XRT has always had a very loyal listener base and I don't think they would risk loosing those listeners. I think it is going to take somebody to take the risk to bring the alternative music back.
I totally agree. Why risk alienating a large listener base for the benefit of trying to attract pieces of a much smaller one? As for Kiss 103.5, they're doing well - why should they try to 'go after' Q101's listeners? That doesn't make any more sense than WLIT doing so.
My guess is that the Loop ends up leaning a bit more modern in an attempt to grab some of the lost Q101 listeners while holding on to most of the Loop's present ones. As for the rest of Q101's listeners? Many will probably go to suburban rockers like WIIL. But the overall listenership has long been insufficient to support the station, hence the blowing out of the format. I don't sense a movement on the part of Chicago market programmers to shift format in order to attract the few listeners they'd get from disaffected aficionados of (today's) Q101.
