The search is over at CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WIOQ (Q102)/PHILADELPHIA as OM/PD TODD SHANNON taps ENTERCOM Top 40 WXSS (103.7 KISS-FM)/MILWAUKEE night stud B-DUB to be his new afternoon driver, beginning SEPTEMBER 12th.

Back at WXSS, OM/PD BRIAN V. KELLY needs a killer replacement. Rush the package to him at WXSS, 11800 W. Grange Ave. MILWAUKEE, WI 53130, or email something very entertaining to BRIAN at [email protected].

Good for him. He's very talented, totally deserving of the gig IMO, and it will be interesting to see what he does with the afternoon shift. But he's definetely got some big shoes to fill!

Hopefully not rehashing old Freak Show bits, which from the looks of the "Show" section of his website, is something he does a lot of.

Highly doubt he will...it's afternoon drive, IMO look for some great radio in Philly. The guy is ready for a war, too...a year in Mobile with the Hot 104/WYOK situation (or what it used to be) is good practice...

You can hear this guy's aircheck at www.mp3airchecks.com. Picture a less talented, fatter, heterosexual version of Tik Tak. Was he really the best thing they could find??

Move along folks. Nothing to see here. Philly radio sucks. I'm moving to Boston.

What, you didn't get the job? Something tells me you wouldn't know talent is it were staring you in the face. Stop hatin' for a minute and maybe you'll see that B Dub is a very talented jock.

Congrats Dub! Good luck in Philly!

So because someone doesn't agree with you, you write them off with:

> Stop hatin' for a minute and maybe you'll see that B Dub is

Give me a break. He DID listen to him, and now he is sharing his OPINION.

For the record, I'm pretty underwhelmed myself. This is the best they could do???

B-Dubs are a dime a dozen--flirt with girl on phone, insert PG13 sexual innuendo, force self to laugh at one's own silliness, cut and paste in a Gen X station ID, hit post, pepper in some "Hot Girl Check Ins" and some wacky street stunts, rinse & repeat and *BAM*...

Instant CHR "Show."

Nobody's doubting that B-Dub has that major market CHR Sound (ie: has some form of talent). But wouldnt it have been nice to hear something a lil' different than the average, run of the mill, straight-down-the-middle "Jock Conference" tripe?

EVERYBODY SOUNDS THE SAME AND NOBODY'S DOING ANYTHING DIFFERENT!!!!

NOBODY does anything original in radio anymore. The business has been around long enough that if you think you created it, the odds are more likely that it was done a thousand times before you did it. If you're holding your breath until somebody "does something different"....

Well, we'll be sure to bring flowers to your grave when you suffocate to death.

OMG.

"Well...it's probably already been done, so I'd better not try anything different. I'll just do some more shout-outs, another Hot Girl Check In and sleepwalk through this job".

If everybody throughout history thought like you...there would be zero creative evolution!!! If THAT is mindset of most young broadcasters...then radio is DEAD.
I'm not even kidding.

Aaron, my dear. Seriously...You really shouldnt be using your real name on here.
You're doing more harm than good to your own professional worth.

Why even bother yourself with Q102 and all that involves them when all you do is slam, slam, slam? I've been following the Q102 afternoon story, and it seems that in every single thread all you do is either slam whatever CHR jock the topic du jour concerns, Q102, Jessie Jordan, Aaron Tyler and the way he runs his station, now B-Dub...seriously, dude, give us a break.

You go on and on about how Aaron is making a fool of himself by using his radio name. I don't know the guy personally, but at least he's putting himself out there, and opening himself up to mature criticism. (Notice the word "mature".)then hide under a freaking user name, continuing to ignore those who ask who are you, what you do on the radio (probably nothing, but that's another story). If you're an intern in Casper, Wyoming (heh, an appropriate market given the subject matter) talking out of your behind, fine, but at least have the nads to admit it and not slam every single freaking thing. I'm starting to agree with Jonathan - were you one of the applicants turned down?

Anyway, I'm hoping this thread isn't closed, but in the probable case that it is, I just wanted to get this out there and also wish B-Dub luck. I'm sure he'll do great - what I've heard of his show is good stuff. Like I said though, I'm wondering how he'll adapt his shtick to afternoons, which is a whole different ballgame than nights.

Kudos to you for a good response.

Certainly, the very best of luck to Dub, he's in for quite a battle between Q and Wired. As far as adapting to afternoons, I asked him the same question when he had me do a mock interview on the phone... His answer was very solid and if he gave the same answer to Todd Shannon, then I'm not surprised he got the gig, over the other two finalists.<P ID="signature">______________

Thanks. It's one thing to say "He wasn't my favorite out of all the auditions" or something of that nature. But all I've seem from him is two things. Negativity and cowardice. I don't even think I need to elaborate.

Obviously I don't know the answer you were given, but I'm sure he'll do fine. And as for those of you who think his shower is nothing but "Hot Girl Check-Ins" then maybe you should check the audio section of his site. Not shabby at all.

> Why even bother yourself with Q102 and all that involves

I'm a fan of CHR. But the Top 40 Jock itself hasn't evolved in 20 years. It's the same formula. The audience is clearly changing, yet the methods have remained the same. I find that frustrating. You call it "slamming", I call it having an opinion.

> You go on and on about how Aaron is making a fool of himself
> by using his radio name.

Nothing wrong with using your real name. But on NUMEROUS occasions he's posted things like "well, at least I have the balls to post using my real name".
Doesnt he realize there are some people that choose not to post using their real name for very obvious reasons? Can you blame them?? It's nice to be able to voice an opinion on a discussion board without the fear of losing one's job!!
You don't get extra points for using your real name. Sorry, you just don't.

Anytime someone has a differing opinion from the majority they are either...

a) a jealous newbie from Casper, WY that didn't end up getting the job
b) a board op that's pissed off he/she didnt get the job.
or
c) a jilted ex-employee that's pissed off at the world and mad he/she didn't get the job.

I love radio and seeing stations make one $hitty, predictable, SAFE decision after another pisses me off. Sorry...Can't just sit by the wayside and smile all the time like you go alongs.

BDub couldve very easily been a jock in 1985, 1995 or 2000. Why is THAT kind of mentality okay for radio, but unacceptable for TV, movies and music?? It's the complacency in radio that iritates me to no end.

It irritates me even more that I seem to be in the minority on that.

Wecome To Philly!

Good luck in Philly. If you're talented and take the time to know the market and get involved in the community, you should do very well here, B Dub.
The negative opinions expressed here don't matter. It's what the listener thinks of you and what you do that counts.
We'll get you a nice big cheesteak "with" when you settle in.

Anyone listen to Wired today? They already reacted to B-Dub...put an intern on the air with the same name coincidentally.

Funny...will B-Dub change is name? Would that be reacting or a good move on his part?

Re: Wecome To Philly!

You tell us, B Dub. What are you going to do?

Smart move by them; they positioned their "B Dub" as somewhat of an idiot. They'll probably have him keep ripping Philly and "fire him" right before the "real" B Dub starts over at Q.

Nice job, Kannon.

I know a radio war is a radio war...but that's just hitting below the belt if you ask me. There should be some cordiality or sense of sportsmanlike conduct. Wired's move smacks of desperation which is unfortunate because they're hardly desperate. I wonder if a C&D might be acceptable for such a case of flagrance.

"Yes, I agree...That station sounds good...You sound great...Good move on their part...They really have their &hit together...Wow, he's awesome".

Yeah, using your real name is really brave.

Especially when you agree and like EVERYTHING.
