Q102 Dead Silence

I got a stereo light but no sound comming from Q102. Could it be because they sent everyone home because the snow and they set everything to auto and it messed up?

It was dead for a long time its now back.

If they were voice tracked at the time, and the snow caused a momentary power outage or power surge, it could zap the computer and cause it to be running, but play no actual audio. Re-booting is the first thing you do there. That usually brings it back, unless the surge fries the computer, but most stations have elaborate surge protection for that sort of thing.

I could appreciate any company sending most its' employees home in a blizzard, but...there should be some type of skeleton staff on duty to make sure things keep running.

Studio-transmitter link could have gone out, but I would hope they allowed enough fade margin in their path to avoid that.

If there was snow/ice buildup on the antenna, kinda hard to plan for that....and event that will happen once every 5 or so years for 10 minutes at a time.

Perhaps they were experimenting with a new format. "Dead Silence"...now there's a reasonalbe alternative for a number of stations.

The silence was intentional, designed to mimic brainwave activity of the listener.
