Q102 getting new PD

Word has it that Rick Vaughn from Kiss 95.7 in Hartford is coming down to take over the PD slot at Q102. Word also has it that he's somewhat of a jerk and an awful PD to work for. I wonder if he'll bring back that phenominal talent Stick to Q102 (Rick hired him in Hartford pre-Q102). Rick also fired Ross Brittian, now at WOGL. Maybe they'll bump into each other in the parking lot!

Hopefully the rumors about Clear Channel switching WIOQ to an all-Premiere talk format will come true. I'd love to see that now more than ever.

You obviously have something personal about Rick. I don't know him personally, but I do have friends that have worked for him, and they have said pretty much the complete opposite from you. According to them, he is a GREAT person to work for. Yes, Rick may have fired Ross, but there is a good chance that came from corporate, not him. You really should not slander somebody on a message board before he even gets into the market.

But isn't this what this place is really about? Non-stop slander, accusations without foundation, and hatred for one another?

How dare you suggest that the status quo be remedied? We cannot deviate from the norm.

That would end the sole reason for the existence of this board...shame on you.

I've never worked for him, but spent 5 years living in the Hartford listening area and know the Kiss 95.7 is a solid operation. I agree that the firing of Ross was probably a corporate decision (maybe over $$$ perhaps, just speculating)...also, Stick went to Kiss 95.7 following his fall-out in Philly with Q102's management at the time...since then he's scored nice numbers doing PM Drive at 96.5 Kiss FM in Cleveland, and now is holding down nights at XL 106.7 in Orlando (he's obviously done fine for himself...

lastly, why does ClearChannel need to switch WIOQ...it'd just make Philadelphia another big city market with NO MAINSTREAM CHR (it would be to WPST's benefit however), but still..not a smart decision for the radio audience...

That's what they thought in Pittsburgh... but it happened. Clear Channel took 104.7 and made it all-talk and cleared all the Premiere shows on that one station. It's happened in other markets, too. CHR is dying. The demos are skewing younger and younger and that is more difficult to sell.

AM will become all brokered, and a lot of the talk will migrate to FM. It's already starting to happen. Less and less people listen to music radio, especially CHR. iPods, satellite and on-demand are the future. Clear Channel knows it. They may be hated, but they're not dummies.

I've worked at Clear Channel, Hartford for five months now. I've never worked -FOR- Rick but I've worked with him. He's a good guy, and I've only heard positive from the airstaff. I DO know he helped raise KISS and and made it a hell of a station. Manuel Rodrigues is there, too, and I know personaly he was a GREAT guy to work for and very personable. I hope thier replacements are at least half what these guys were.

Let's Review..

Two things wrong with your reasoning:

-- 104.7 in Pittsburgh was not a CHR. 93.7 was the dying CHR that flipped formats and it was not owned by Clear Channel.
-- 96-1 KISS was already on the air when 104.7 was flipped to talk.

And I will also argue your contention that CHR is dying.. I believe that it is at one of its strongest points in the past few years. Those programmers that recognize the threat that Satellite/IPods/Internet Radio/Etc pose to their radio stations and focus their station and staff to combat that threat will succeed. Those that just sit back and do nothing are the ones that will see their stations in trouble. Q102 bills very well and is not going anywhere, despite the wishes of certain individuals on this board.
