Q102 has played "Leavin'" ELEVEN TIMES today! (And it's only 4:00!)

Except for the 11:00 a.m. hour (and outside of the morning show), Q102 has played Jesse McCartney's "Leavin'" during every hour today. (And actually, they played it at 10:57 a.m. so at least some of it probably did air during the 11:00 hour!) It played at 3:34 this morning, probably ending around 3:38...and then it was back 46 minutes later! 46 minutes!

So far, the song played at 12:02 a.m., 1:50 a.m., 2:11 a.m., 3:34 a.m., 4:24 a.m., 5:31 a.m., 10:57 a.m., 12:11 p.m., 1:19 p.m., 2:38 p.m., and 3:53 p.m.

It appears as though the only hours today that Q102 won't play the song will be 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Am I the only person who thinks playing a song 18x a day is too much? The jocks over there must hate this song right about now!

Q102 has been known to play their currents up to 160 times a week. 160 spins / 7 days = almost 23 times a day.

This week, WIOQ has six songs spinning more than 90 times. Everytime you turn on Q102, you are hearing one of the biggest songs in the nation. On the flip side, you can't listen for long periods of time.

Thanks for the advice, Kris. But I don't actually listen to Q102 very much so there's actually no need for me to change the...uh..."channel." What bothers me about it, since you seem interested, is that they're burning out so many songs and killing their TSL. I mean, I guess TSL doesn't matter to them but whatever. When are they gonna just give up? LOL.

Put on Q 102 now. It's very likely that you will hear one of the following 6 songs: Disturbia, Leavin', One Step At A Time, Better In Time, Shake It, When I Grow Up. Q102 is a perfect example of "the station that plays the same 6 songs every hour" because it does. Cume * TSL = Ratings. When the average teenager gets in the car and hits the button for Q102, he/she wants to hear their favorite song, or else they flip to 96.5. Formats like AC get higher TSL by being played in the office all day, but less cume because people don't change stations as much.

To follow up on the WCAU-FM comparison, I believe the early formula of the Hot Hits format dictated that the top song play every 70 minutes, the #2 song play every 90 minutes, and the #3 song play every 2 hours. Can anyone confirm that?

Off topic, but a few years ago Over and Over by Nelly and Tim McGraw was #1 on top 40. One VH1 guy joked the song was named Over and Over because that's how often they play it on the radio.

I don't understand why anyone likes Leavin'. The background music is so annoying.

For comparison, our CHR here in Boston, Kiss 108, also has Leavin' as their #1 song and has played it at the following times today so far:

12:54 am, 2:40 am, 4:05 am, 5:37 am, 7:21 am, 8:47 am, 10:07 am, 11:42 am. That's 8 times so far in 12 hours...or 16 times a day. 7*16 = 112 times a week. Not quite as bad as Q102, 160x a week is rediculous. Plus Kiss puts about 80-120 min in between the song which is a little bit better than 45-60 min!!!

Also, it seems that Kiss seems to mix it up a little bit more than Q102, at glance I see songs like Estelle's "American Boy" Feat. Kanye West as #6 on WXKS's spins, but it doesn't even show up on WIOQ's. Also WXKS threw in Red Hot Chili Peppers "Under the Bridge" at 11:31am which is a nice change from the newer stuff, doubt WIOQ would ever play RHCP. Seems like Q is very repetitive with the same 5 songs, where Kiss does mix it up a bit more..

This morning, Q102 played the song at 12:15 a.m. and again at 12:48 a.m. There were only eight songs (and maybe 30 minutes) between! ;D

Imagine if Philly had a 3rd CHR - Q102 would literally play the same 5 songs over and over.

Well if this is all you have to do spend with your time, you got what was coming to you. Yes these songs are well overplayed. I'm in the office and it doesn't matter if it's FM, XM , IM....(Internet Modulation) ...I am musically abused and harrassed , with Maroon 5, MatchBox 20, The Killers, Taylor Swifted to death.... even if the song is 1 year old, I still hear it 3-6 times a day. With no end in sight.
I don't mind hearing a song if it's hot and only 2-3 weeks old 10 times a day, only to be phased out when it's 3-4 months old...but yes, there the old days....I am glad I'm not a jock.

You don't actually think I was listening to Q102, do you? LOL. I'd go out of my mind. www.yes.com

I should go back and check the top 100 songs they're playing. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't spinning enough to fill the list! haha

You did have me worried there for second. I've already read a post about someone complaining about a radio station not ID'ing 30 seconds too soon or too late at the hour...you never know.

People really do take some of these things very seriously. Personally, I think a lot of these "rules" imposed by the FCC are outmoded and transparently silly. (But that pretty much sums up the FCC as well.) But as long as the rules are "on the books," watchdogs are gonna complain about enforcement.

My take: Relax the rules! For instance, what is the point of a Legal ID these days? I mean, really?! Stop telling stations when they're supposed to do it and no one can complain when it happens at eleven minutes before the top of the hour.

Isn't it a DMCA violation to play the same song more than 3 times in 3 hours? If someone wanted to record Leavin', all they would need to do is tape Q102 for an hour and they'll have that song.

To help identify signals should they somehow interfere with another.

Stop telling stations when they're supposed to do it and no one can complain when it happens at eleven minutes before the top of the hour.

Isn't the legal ID required by international treaty? I know stations all over the world give their actual callsign at regular intervals.
