Q102!! WOW!!

lovejamminoldies said:
So, you're calling me a ignorant youngster?

"Calling" you? No, identifying and describing you!

"Ignorant" - lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified

Are you saying you do not lack knowledge or comprehension of Q's special weekend and/or future plans? You most certainly do!

"Youngster" - a young person; a youth

Are you saying you're not a youth?

Well, I may be 14...

I see my description was accurate.

...but I run 3 internet radio stations...

There is no such thing.

"Radio" - of, relating to, or operated by radiant energy; of or relating to electric currents or phenomena (as electromagnetic radiation ) of frequencies between about 3000 hertz and 300 gigahertz; of, relating to, or used in radio or a radio set; specializing in radio or associated with the radio industry; transmitted by radio; making or participating in radio broadcasts; controlled or directed by radio

You may call me a ignorant youngster but if I know to not insult people on this board...

I didn't insult you. I identified and described you.

...I think I know a little bit more than you do.

Shall we take a test or something? I'd be happy to.

I mean, geez. Stay off the board if you're going to make a big deal about something so small like that.

"Stay off the board" if I want to return the board to a sane and reasoned discussion of the industry and its people??? Ha! :D Isn't it much more logical to suggest that ignorant youngsters simply read and learn?

Don't react. Think about it.

You just have to waste your time and try to look smart in front of the other guys. "Ha!" LOL.. It's pretty obvious you work with Q102 and Entercom and you're trying to cover up your ideas. That's fine with me.. I respect that but don't call me a ignorant youngster.

Junior high peer pressure was never a factor in my life. You appear to be projecting.

...but don't call me a ignorant youngster.

I didn't "call" you anything.

From now on, I'll use "young person who's lacking knowledge and comprehension" if that's what you prefer.

"Junior high peer pressure was never a factor in my life."

I wonder why. Anyway, it's pretty obvious you work in radio. And it's pretty obvious you work with Q102. Please tell the MD there that if they go CHR, I would love that because the 90's and now is dying. ALSO, this sounds like Jeff from the morning show. If it is, your show is boring. Thanks!

I hope not. But, that sounds resonable. I'm thinking Jeff & Jen don't have long. The only thing they need to update is the site. They took 90's And Now out the LEGAL ID. I'm thinking they're just going to go as "Cincinnati's Hit Music!"

First off, while I don't agree with all of your statements, I think it's great that we have 14-year olds who care about radio. That is where our industry is REALLY in trouble. The youth of America don't have the desire to get into the business anymore.

I went to the NAB and it was full of 50+ year-old men - who made a lot of money because they were in the right place at the right time. I'm still under 40 - and felt like one of the younger people there. When I was in my early 20's - that made sense - but there were very few people under 30 for sure.

Back to the issue at hand: I think making a statement regarding the employment of the morning show isn't fair. What information do you have to back it up? And since there is no stream and I can't listen - are they actually using "Cincinnati's Hit Music" on the air now?

Why would Q102 want to go head-to-head with WKFS? They are pulling in better adult demos - and I am assuming driving a lot more revenue. By trying to attack WKFS, they would actually send ratings over to WKFS sister WVMX. Theory doesn't make sense. CC could then strategically surround Q102.

Now here is a smart person finally. RadioResearcher---VERY SMART. Now, true. Are they using Cincinnati's Hit Music on the air? Yes. This LOCALGUY sounds like Jeff from the morning show and I bet if it is he's going to try and annoy me and say 90's and now on the air because I will be listening tomorow. Personally, I like Q102's sound right now and me and my friend (he is over 20) agreed that this is how it should sound all the time. I mean I am 14 and normally I would listen to KISS or The Wiz BUT I liked MOJO and I've always listened to Q. Q102 is like #11 in the city and if they leaned toward Movin' they would be doing better. And yes, I do care about radio. I love radio and I already have decided my plans for the future.

But aren't they positioning it as a special weekend? They may be #11 - but they are probably much stronger among adults 18-49 and 25-54 - and more importantly women 18-49 and 25-54. "Movin'" still doesn't have a track record of success. It has had two good books in Seattle - but the long term future is still something that is undecided.

It may have a chance in Cincinnati because "Mojo" performed well. But it would seem like flipping Q102 is a dangerous thing. WVMX would be a better choice - especially with Whoopi in mornings.

True. They should've flipped MIX months ago. I am currently listening to Q while cleaning my room. Sounding pretty good right now. I don't want to say sounding really CHR because then the LocalGuy will bit*h and complain.

Ah yes. The youthful zest for radio that propelled many of us into the biz in the first place. A little speculative and naive? Perhaps. But there's something refreshingly welcome about these posts. I remember the days of getting excited about possible format changes....especially if it was to Top 40 or AOR. I still remember back in about 1970 when there were rumors that MOR 1530 WCKY was going to switch to Top 40 and use its 50,000 watts to go up against WSAI. Instead, they went beautiful music...."The Music of Your Life." What a disappointment. But it was fun to speculate and anticipate.

Maybe we need to remember that this is a board for enthusiasts as well as professionals lest we kill the youthful and adventurous spirit that is missing from radio today. Besides, any 14-year-old who gets into jammin' oldies and Motown must have a musically open mind. Cool. ;)

I wonder why.

Character, convictions, and strength.

If it is, your show is boring.

If it were, I wouldn't be concerned about what 14 year-old boys think.

I do, too; I was one, myself.

The difference is this: at that age, the thing to do is ask questions and listen to and learn from the responses. There is no reason for a "young person who's lacking knowledge and comprehension" to so boldly state such ridiculous fantasies in a public forum as if they're reality and have already happened.

I love enthusiasm, zest, and spirit. I have a feeling I'd love to meet and know this kid in real life. At the same time, though, I'm pretty sure the thing I would be saying most often to him is, "okay, slow down; don't jump to conclusions."

LOL, ok? You kind of should care what we think considering kids are a big focus to radio. So uhh... rethink. You seem like a cool guy too but again, maybe you need to do some rethinking. I mean, go listen to Q102 right now. Pretty CHR to me.

It actually looks like a hybrid of "Movin"" and a rhythmic CHR... Too much gold to be considered CHR...

Just looked at some real time monitoring ...and they seem to be back to the old format.

Fray, Pink, and Rob Thomas.

Q102 is not going to change the format. The revenue is way to strong to change. The party weekend is just that a party WEEKEND! Entercom is not going to change a thing at Q.

So, you're calling me a ignorant youngster? I bet it took you a long time to write that post. Well, I may be 14 but I run 3 internet radio stations, a internet countdown, AND my grandpa was in radio for over 40 years. You may call me a ignorant youngster but if I know to not insult people on this board, I think I know a little bit more than you do.

Your internet radio expertise notwithstanding...I don't think that gives you the right, respectfully, to assume you know everything there is to know about running a commercial radio station. There's a huge difference between running an internet radio station and running a station that is dependent upon advertisers.

Given your closeness to the business with your grandfather, I do think you probably know more than the average 14 year old. But, let this 30 plus year veteran of the business tell you something: you're wrong to assume 10 to 20 minutes of what could be a specialty weekend feature is the automatic predictor of a complete format change.

And, respectfully, that's what annoys many people about these boards. I suppose speculation is ok, but speculation based upon such a small amount of evidence is like
assuming the outcome of an election when only the absentee ballots are counted.

It still doesn't call for Jeff or Localguy or whoever he is, to be so nasty to him. His tirade actually reminded me of another morning show egomaniac from a few years ago...Not saying you have an out of control ego or anything, Local, just saying attacking a 14 year old kid who was speculating about a radio station was a little uncalled for and more than a little out of line.

And if you dont like speculation based upon a small amount of evidence go read All Access. HA! Now thats funny.

I wonder how people can be so hateful to someone they don't even know.

Does anyone notice how easily people get ugly with other people when they are shielded by a computer? This would rarely happen face-to-face.

Fortunately though, this isn't nearly as bad as dcrtv.com. Actually, this is the main reason I rarely visit and never post comments on that website anymore.
