Q102

Definetely not. Here's a joke..

My friend called into a Bonneville Hot AC and requested Smack That by Akon & Eminem. He was just being funny. They told him, "Bonneville is a mormon company. We don't believe in that." or something in that form. I wonder if he was telling the truth but a good part of me believes him. Bonneville needs to make some major changes to the area to survive here because if they don't everybody else will step right over them. (i.e. Clear Channel, Cumulus)

Ok. I found out he WAS just kidding. That is a good joke though. :D

And Cincinnati STILL does not have a true CHR. Q is more adult-leaning almost Hot AC and KISS is more Rhythmic. They need one, that's for sure.

Q is definitely more of a hot AC. I haven't listened to KISS since I lived in Indiana in '99. It sounded pretty mainstream when it was new, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's made changes since. After all, rhythmic is pretty hot right now. I guess I have better things to do than listen to a KISS CHR on the internet these days!

One of my girlfriends used to really like WKRQ, and I remember hearing "Come on Eileen" just about everytime she turned on Q. I always thought it was weird that a heritage top-40 would be playing that song as part of anything other than a specialty weekend show in '99. From looking at their webpage, it looks like they've taken the 80's out of their playlist, but, like KISS, I haven't listened to 'KRQ since I moved.

Yes. You tell me..

Q's set:

Chris Brown- Run It!
Rocco DeLuca- Colorful
Outkast- Hey Ya!
Stone Sour- Through Glass
Pussycat Dolls- Buttons
Nickelback- If Everyone Cared
(Although they played 2Pac's California Love in the 3:00 hour.)

KISS's set:

Hinder- Lips Of An Angel
Beyonce- Irreplaceable
Blackstreet- No Diggity
Paula DeAnda- Walk Away
Pretty Ricky- Grind With Me
Akon- I Wanna Love You

I'd say KISS is the better one but hey.. depends if you're the soccer mom. :)

Q-102 sounds like a rather schizophrenic hot AC. It seems like I've heard of a few hot AC's playing "California Love," but it's very few and played very seldomly.

It's hard to say if KISS is mainstream or rhythmic CHR based on 6 songs, but, when I worked at a rhythmic, my PD said 3 urbans to 1 pop was the standard rotation of a rhythmic CHR. It looks like KISS is about there based on that list.

I can't imagine them being anything harsher than AC (something along the lines of Warm 98) with Bonneville.

But I guess the FCC isn't going to step in to stop Bonneville from killing off a legendary 35-year heritage station.

****With all due respects "Nowaycc"*****

In my 35 year broadcasting career, I have never, ever (under both liberal democrat and conservative republican administrations), seen the FCC care one iota about a "heritage station changing formats". That is not the domain of the Federal Communications Commission and never has been.

Well, no, they never had a specific rule against format changes. However, the FCC used to give much stronger consideration before approving a station transfer, instead of just being a rubber stamp for whoever might decide to buy up all the stations in town.

An example is what happens with all the new Class A (or higher) stations that Don Wildmon puts on the air that wipe off LPFM's or Class D high school stations. By being Class A or better, Wildmon's stations that just rebroadcast his crazy right-wing nonsense are considered primary facilities, which take precedence over Class D stations, which are secondary. Years ago, the FCC probably would have weighed Wildmon's efforts against those of the high school stations that would be taken off the air. Now they usually just let Wildmon get his way, just because they can.

Right wing/left wing have nothing to do with the FCC's considerations, even before the Telecom Act of 1996 and after the Communications Acts of 1927 & 1934. FCC has never cared about non-indecent content and hopefully they never do.
