Q102's Chio Exits for Z-90/San Diego

Holy poop! From All Access:

Veteran major market air personality CHIO resigned from CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WIOQ(Q102)/PHILADELPHIA today (12/2), and announced that he'll assume the morning drive airshift on FINEST CITY Top 40/Rhythmic XHTZ (Z90)/SAN DIEGO, effective 1/3/06. His last day on-air in PHILADELPHIA will be FRIDAY 12/16.

One would think the Morning Freak Show at Kiss FM/Pittsburgh (Mikey & Big Bob)
would make a return to Philly. I think they are the most relevant, active CHR morning show in the country right now.

Another great talent exits Q102. This seems to happen A LOT lately, doesn't it? In just the past couple years they've lost Angi Taylor, Logan, Fernando, Kasper, Tic Tak, Mikey, Big Bob etc. etc. etc.

Lisa Paige is all they really have left with actual Market 6-worthy talent. The rest of the babies in middays/afternoons/nights/etc. can all go back to the small markets/part time positions they crawled here from as far as I'm concerned.

wow, such negative vibes.
Angie left to go have a baby and be with her husband(good reason), Kasper went home(good reason), the freak show went to do a morning show (good reason), and the rest bagged for obious reasons. (very good reason)
Lisa is a huge talent and the rest of the gang is posting the best numnbers the station has seen in years (see obious reasons).

LOL, nice... I have to agree, that is a lot of negativity towards a station that seems to be doing fairly well in the Q102/Wired ratings battle. That being said, Chio's surprising (I understand that he worked with Z90's PD in the past, but he is leaving for a smaller market in the heat of a big battle, which seems a bit odd, then again I don't know the whole situation...) departure marks a full staff turnover over the past year. Alecia B. came in to do mid-days in May to replace Jessie Jordan, who had been there what, 6 months, and moved to do nights? B-Dub just came in about 2 months ago to replace Kasper, Freak Show leaves and mid-dayer Jessie takes over. I mean, I guess what they're doing is working, but that's a hell of a lot of changes on its own. Add on the exit of a well-known air talent in what is perhaps the station's most critical daypart...

Anyway, I wonder who they'll bring in to do mornings? Anyone want to take a stab?

Wired has only beaten Q in 2 books, 18-34, FYI.

I would have to guess that there are a few names on the short list within CC.

Mikey and Big Bob (WKST); Buckhead (KKRZ); Bobby Bones (KHFI). All are solid shows in large markets.

And speaking of new talent...how do they sound? B-Dub has been in Philly for going on three months now, how is he fitting in? Alecia is a new talent in the market, any feedback on her?

Well, he has worked for Rick Thomas three times already...

Screw the battle. If I were offered a gig in America's Finest City with a great PD that I like and a GM that I knew I'd get along with, I'd be on the next plane to San Diego, too.<P ID="signature">______________
