I did not see one NEW YORK DOLLS song on that playlist!!!! how can you be a NEW YORK rock station with no DOLLS?!?!?

Using your logic, the only stations that should play songs from Boston are rock stations in the city of Boston only.

Metallica? Wow, they're even dumber than I thought. One Eskimo's "Kandi" and "Enter Sandman" in the same hour will happen soon... and watch the TSL go even lower.

Who is consulting them? Why can't anyone there see how these pieces don't fit together?

I was stunned, and disappointed, to see that 'RXP played 4 Linkin Park songs today! I suppose they've fully embraced the lowest common denominator philosophy to programming music.

no, my logic says a Boston station should proudly play tracks by Boston, and a NY station should proudly play tracks by the NY DOLLS!!!...a rock station should, that is...

And at least two of these entries were right next to Bruce Springsteen songs on the playlist, I'm guessing...

I'm shocked WRXP just played Metallica (albeit "Enter Sandman" which is a fairly well-known song). The jock followed it up with a rant about something along the lines of four-legged beasts and vampires but not emo-wimpy vampires (wtf??) and proeceeded to play an absolutely abominable cover version of the Doors' "People Are Strange" that would have Jim Morrison rolling over in his grave for sure. Another example of the trainwreck that RXP is. I'd bet they have the lowest TSL of any big-market station.

Hey, I like the Echo & The Bunnymen version of that song, it was even used in the opening sequence of "The Lost Boys".

I definitely don't think Metallica fits on RXP. Or Evanescence (they've played "Bring Me To Life" at least twice this week). Linkin Park, I could take or leave. However, I am happy to see them going a bit deeper with the grunge bands. One can only take so much of "All Apologies" and "Black Hole Sun".

Really though, what they need to do is drop the arena rockers like Van Halen and AC/DC, along with the rootsy singer-songwriters like Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. I don't see why they can't just try a straight-up Alternative format - most of the listeners they get are probably fans of that genre. I suppose the non-alternative stuff might help their cume a little, but undoubtedly has an adverse affect on their TSL. I doubt that going full-blown Alternative would hurt their overall ratings.

I too would prefer something along the lines of WFNX or the late G-Rock, but realistically a safer, gold-oriented approach a la WRFF is probably the best bet in terms of ratings. Of course, that station has its own problems with out-of-place music - in their case, it's Hot AC fare like The Fray and teen-skewing pop-punk like Fall Out Boy. But remove those acts, and maybe add a bit more pre-90's alternative, and you have a solid format.
