Q104 will go Rock Current

Folks, if Free FM will lose Free Rock Weekends then it will be replace by Free Talk Weekends on Free FM by 24/7 in all talk, so Q104 will go by Rock Current on HD1 and Q104 will go by Classic Rock on HD2, so other times I could listen to Jack FM by playing Classic Rock, Alternative and all Variety Hits of the decade.

Where is this confirmed? Sounds like this is something you would like to happen rather than actually happening. However, I do agree....I'd love to see Q104 become a full rock station...this market needs one!

Now THIS would be a great idea... I already have Q104 and Jack as presets on my Zune and in my car... if Q104 was to go rock currents, that would be simply nice. Jack already plays many of the tunes Q104 does, so I wouldn't really need Q104 HD2, but classic rock should go there.

We definitely need A general rock station here.. it might not be a ratings killer, but I have friends who would listen.. they're all tuned to their iPods, Zunes and other MP3 players. They heard a commercial for KROCK2 and was interested, but when they found out it was online-only, that killed the interest.

Our ages? 19-21 in northern Westchester. We'd listen.

Let's start with that is so far from accurate . Who said Free was going to dump rock on weekends?. and even if it were, HD 1? you know how many people have HD radios?........... less than post on this board. Interesting idea but no reality to it.

If Q104 does go rock current, do you think they would use the "Pure Rock" in their marketing/imaging like they did in the 1990s?

I would like to see this happen.

The problem is that didn't work hence they're playing classic rock today. Active rock, That was a great idea but so poorly executed! Active rock with the 'we never talk over the music" slogan? Jesus was that station a bore.

John Manelli said in the Daily News that in the future Free Fm will drop the music on the weekend. If that happens, I can see Q-104 sprinkling in some new Rock. Kinda like WBAB.

no, what they should do is LEAVE Q104 ALONE THE WAY IT IS, and ditch the Free FM format on 92.3 and make it rock (new and old) just like 93.3 WMMR

Listen:

Q-104 will NOT go current, period no matter what Free Fm or anyone else does. Why? theywould not make as much money trying to target and bill as a current based rock station as they do as a boring, middle of the road, un challanging, rarely even rocking, 25-54 CLASSIC ROCK station. It is all about the economics and nothing else. Especially now and remember this is clear channel NOTHING, repeat NOTHING means anything but the $$$$$$$$$.

NOW: will they devote one of their HD Channels to it? NOPE. All of the major radio operators have already met and decided whose HD channels will program what content, just so that everyone knows who is doing what and there will not be overlap. In short it is already decided and I THINK contractul binding of some sort has occurred (dont ask me how but I know it was a big deal that everyone be in agreement of who was going to be doing what with their HD channels as to not duplicate programming. Then agaim so what if they did flip one of their HD channels active rock? NO ONE HAS HD and if anyone gets it it will be a good long while. Either way it's moot.

What that classic current crap? in other words New music by Old Artists? most classic rock stations play the new music by their old artists from time to time. ...Like Oh here's the new WHO track? Ever go to a show and you hear someone scream "no new [EDIT]"?.

There's a reason for that!

::)

[EDIT-profanity]

The only way Q will add currents is if they want to alienate their target demographics, and see their ratings drop to 1.5 or 1.0...

Sorry...that is not happening. As a cluster, CC does a phenominal job running its NY properties. Stations are positioned well as-is. The most vulnerable, IMHO is KTU...but even the likelihood of a change there is very remote.

Again even if they do, who cares? HD radio is about as hot as the mini disc was supposed to be. Nobody has them yet, nobody understands the concept yet, and only time will tell if it actually catches on, my gut is saying it wont in any big way.

I still have a pure rock q 1043 bumper sticker... god I miss those days with the way radio is now

Dude "pure rock" ?.....they were so bad, so dull, and lifeless. IT's ROCK it's supposed to be exciting. leave it to Ron Valeri to turn something as exciting as Rock music into something boring with AAA formatics "We never talk over the music' worst programming I have seen in years! and no wonder they're plying Van Morrison every ten minutes today!.

::)

In 1994 I was only 9 what did I know back then...?
I remember 95.9 the fox (wefx at the time) out of norwalk ct I remember the days that they just went from rock to classic rock. the only liner I remeber tho was a liner with a limp biskit song stating how they were not playing that kind of music anymore and insted playing classic rock. anyone have an aircheck of the changover for that?
