Q105 questions

I have a couple of questions about WRBQ/Q105, both past and present...

1. In 1991, I recall some sort of television simulcast of Q105 programming. I think it might have been the morning show - when songs would play on the radio, they aired the song's music video on TV. Does this ring a bell? If so, what was the TV station in question?

2. When the station tried a country format, did they use the "Q105" name? If so, did they use the same logo that they have now?

In the Country days. they were B104.7 or something like that....Logo, as I remember, had a BEE (insect) on it.......

I believe the morning show was simulcast on WTMV TV 32, when they had no real programming to speak of.

Don't know if this is the same program you're talking about, but I used to work at Q105 in the late 80's (Cleveland, Terrence, Mason, Bobby Rich, Jon Anthony, Brian "BC" Christopher and Nightrain Lane) and while I was there, they started televising the Q Morning Zoo every morning(I think they called it the Q105 Zoo Tube or Morning Zoo Tube or something like that). Not sure if they started out utilizing music videos when the respective songs played, but one thing's for sure...there weren't a lot of songs played on the Zoo back then, so they sure didn't need a plethora of videos...lol.

1. The Q Morning Zoo Tube aired in the late 80's and for a time was on the old V-32. However, I think it was also on channel 38 at one point. That was when both stations were newly signed on independents. I'd even go as far to say they tried it during afternoon drive for an hour or so as well.

2. During the country format, they went through a variety of different positionings. For the most part though, it was always Q105; they just constantly changed the slogans. From what I remember:
"Q105" with a red white and blue "flag" version of the current logo.
"105 The Bee" had a black and yellow logo (with the insect on it) with emphisis on the "WRBQ" call letters.
"Q105 Country" again was utilizing the current logo but with "Country" added to it.

I think it was always confusing to diary keepers and listeners having 2 country stations with Q's in their names. In my opinion, they should have dropped the Q105 name right outta the box and they may have had a better run over the years in the country format.

It just so happens I am in the process of putting together a website all about the history of Q105 (Q105History.com). I have some old Q105 stuff including all the logos used throughout the years. I just put together a page on our Dance Party website so that you can view all the old logos to include the "rare" Bee logo.

;D Chris, I'm glad to see someone putting together something on this. The first logo looks like the one we first designed up in Winston Salem for Q105 when Southern Broadcasting owned them..This was circa 1973. I don't see anything on your site that refers to Southern Broadcasting. At that time we owned KOY, WSGN, WKIX, WTOB, WGHP-TV along with 105.. I don't think I have any stuff from back then, but most of the orginal owners of Southern, I believe are still alive. Maybe they can help..Thanks APE!

Big Ape,

The logos were put up today just for this thread. Everything (including ownership) will be covered in detail once the actual site goes live later this year. I can't remember who sent me that logo. It was sent to me when I had a website devoted to the history of Tampa Bay Radio which has since been taken down due to my very busy schedule. Research and upkeep on that site took up alot of my free time and that was before I started working for Q105 on the weekends (I also have a full time job during the week). I'll and see if I can locate any of the original owners for info regarding that era. Thanks! Chris

I beileve the "Q Zoo Tube" was first on WBHS Channel 50 which would show the "Tube" in the morning and Home Shopping Network programming the rest of the day. This was about 1987. A year or two later, it shifted to WTMV Channel 32. But about a year after that, V32 decided to have their own show in the morning (remember Haywood Henson?) and the Q Zoo tube went to WTTA Channel 38 until the format change of Q105 to country.

Speaking of V32, anyone remember the morning show BEFORE the Q Zoo tube? Mike Pachelli and Geroge Lowe. I wonder where these guys are now. I remember George had some goofy kid with him too.

Didn't Mike also host some overnight movies on 32 when they first went on the air...???
