Q106.5 format change?

Did anyone in the Quad Cities listen to Q106 around the 7pm hour tonight (10/30/2007)? I was in the car at that time and during the ride, I heard '80s hits on the Q106...from Backtrax USA! That's right, Kid Kelly's show was on the Q. Was this just a special presentation? Or will the show no longer air on Mix 96 anymore? What's next, a show from the KUUL lineup?

A new format would be nice.
What do you think, Regional Mexican or FM talk?

-sarcasm mode turned off-

In all seriousness, I'm going to look into my crystal ball and tell you what I see...

Oh great crystal ball SHOW ME THE FUTURE!

OK, fall ratings come out. Q106 gets less share than Star 93-5.
They freak out. They flip the station to Active Rock, play edgier songs than Rock 104-9
and attempt to steal away talent from other stations to fill the air shifts.
Then dominate in the Spring book.

I'm not sure if that will all actually happen, but something will!

Lets see...They have country, news/talk, oldies/variety hits, adult contemporary, and classic rock, oh and that am sports channel I guess.

What I think would be good is if they would do a swap out with KUUL, put them on 106.5, simulcast until Thanksgiving day, then 101.3 goes all all christmas for the holiday season, with a new format debuting in January.

If you think about it, KUUL is the one they are really promoting and pushing right now. WLLR is a no brainer, as is WOC and Mix. Do they run all Christmas this year on KUUL? In the past they have used it to tweak the format some and introduce newer music. The station can't get too much more progressive into the 80's than it is right now without affecting Mix. Also, they spend all this money for marketing only to play all Christmas again?

Look for 101.3 to debut with a new format in January...with KUUL on 106.5....and that format, as I speculated before, will be.....101.3, KISS FM. Go back up against B100. Thoughts?

"The Brew" 106.5 (just an idea)

I have a great idea for KCQQ in Davenport: Instead of refering to the station as the Q, let's call it "The Brew". I got this idea from Clear Channel stations in Milwaukee and Omaha that pretty much play the same music as we hear here, and I personally think that the brew name would be distinctive for the station....Any thoughts?

Lol, you're dreaming Energy. Why don't you start your own Kiss FM station if you're so desireable (Hope I spelled that right)? I do respect everyone's opinion though on message boards but if you look right now this KUUL 101.3 is not streaming online. So if this flipped to CHR it would still not be streaming and thus, I, the avid master radio listener that I am wouldn't be able to hear it since I'm not in the area. Something has to be in it for me to care. It's strange really since some of their other sister CC stations in this market are streaming and others are not.

Why do you think the QCs needs two CHRs again when Las Vegas, NV and Denver, CVO have none? I want to be in a market that has a new CHR as 103.7 here in Milwaukee is the worst one ever. I'm trying to think of all the CHRs in Iowa that changed or signed on. KXFT 99.7 just signed on with one over in Fort Dodge. Sioux City, IA there was a new CHR about almost a year ago called KSFT Kiss 107. In New London, IA there was KHDK Hot 97.3 signing on. KSMA 98-7 Kiss FM in Mason City, IA flipped theirs to country and here in the QC WHTS All Hit 98-9 failed. Why would another one do any better? Please enlighten me.

This market has no smooth jazz station. If anything should flip to a new format, it should be smooth jazz and streaming online too. Flip that dumb Q-106 (where I know of a rude person that works there as well) to smooth jazz. Classic hits STINK!

In response to: "Why do you think the QCs needs two CHRs again when Las Vegas, NV and Denver, CVO have none?"

You can not compare Denver, CO to the QC concerning the existence of CHRs. As a person who has worked in both the Quad Cities and Denver as well as studied history of stations in both markets, I can tell you that there is an obvious and FUNDAMENTAL difference in population size, ethnicity, and surveyed areas. Furthermore, Denver has always had a fragmented market and there have been 3 attempts of CHR stations in the Denver market--all of which have failed. On the other hand, in the QC, CHRs have always done well. Including the former WHTS which was a heritage station with a Top 40/pop format. WHTS had always done well in their core demos as well as 12+. In addition to that evidence, KBEA, WHTS' former competition and now only existing CHR in the market, does fantastic in it's core. In fact, during WHTS' existence in the market, it was always neck and neck with KBEA. There's obvious proof in the pudding that adding another CHR in the market again will prove to be successful and provide a break musically from the rythmic leaning KBEA.
