I did get to hear Q2 one night while driving back to BR from Lafayette. It was pretty interesting and I did enjoy it.
As far as B-97 goes, maybe I can help....
Did a little research, plus I can recall some of this.
It was sometime during the summer of '95 when B-97 flipped talk,... ten years ago, believe it or not. Don't seem like it.... I woke up the next morning to hear B-97 had talk. I thought it was a joke since there was no other CHR station in the city. Biggest freakin' mistake in their 25 year history! That was a move based on some advice from a moron "con"sultant E-Z Communications (owners at the time) hired. "Planet B" was that rock show they played in the evenings before they went to Love Lines... remember that?!
I wanna say it was something like 8 or 9 months later, they flipped back to HOT AC as B-97 FM. They also used the same CHR jingle package as they did back in the late 80's. I guess it's something they dug up and realized they could use it 'cause they still had it in the music closet. LOL
The PD for the station while it was talk was also the PD responsible for the switch back to music. He was a talk PD and didn't know much about music formats. E-Z just kept him in there and used him to impliment the new format till they could get a music PD in there. (Maybe that's why on the day of the switch, I heard Cathy Dennis, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jon Secada, R. Kelly, etc.) The format was all over the place... like a JACK or RED! They were playing whatever they found! LOL
Joe Larson came on as PD shortly after. He chunked the classic jingles, got 'em a new ones, and a few months after the beginning of 1997, he decided to do "The Year Of The B!"
Sawtooth
PS: I actually have some audio tape of B-97FM flipping from Hot AC to CHR as B-97.1. The responsible PD was Rob Waggman and the jock on the air at the time of the switch was John Marty. For a few hours right after the flip, they played a mix of Hot AC and CHR music, with the same liners and jingles for the Hot AC format, flip-flopped with new liners and jingles of "The *New* B-97.1!"
