Q93 - Alexandria

As read on thier website www.q93fm.com "Big changes are on the way to Q93 in 2007! Tune in 1-2-07" I wonder what changes are fixen to happen. I really don't have a clue what could be changing other than maybe Ron is leaving. I personally don't see a format change, but could be wrong. Anyone else have any ideas?

as with most radio these days it's probably 90% hype and 10% substance

No I don't think it's a format change (29 years roughly same format) or Ron leaving (but I wish that Ron would learn to leave the dance versions of songs to late nights..geez)

Guesses are redo of Cenla websites and probable streaming of the Cenla stations (as hinted on their websites)

Plus the station is nearing it's 30 year mark... (some say 1977, others say 1978) So Celebration?!??!

On 1.2.07 we will see perhaps

RFLA

If they are about to celebrate their birthday in a big way, that's awesome!! I pride a PD and station that respects a station's heritage and longevity.

When I worked at B-97 (WEZB-FM) in New Orleans, I mentioned B-97 would be celebrating its 25th birthday on June 1, 2005. I got brushed off by the PD Mike Kaplan because it was "something that should NOT be done on a CHR. Country or classic rocker maybe, but not CHR. People don't care!" What a bunch of bullsh**. People love it and their not stupid. They know what stations they grew up with. He didn't come up with the idea first; therefore, it was garbage.

97.5 WABB in Mobile, AL just recently did theirs and it was a major thing along the gulf coast! Jammer is a good PD! 30 years as the gulf coast's hit music station! From Destin, FL to Gulfport, MS, thanks for making us number 1!

Again, if the birthday thing is what's gonna happen, then way to go Q93!!! Congrats to Alexandria for keepin' the station alive!

Everything I've seen except their myspace has said 1978 was when they started but yes, unlike the B, KQID has celebrated their birthday.. Actually they do a birthday bash every year by inviting up and coming mainly acts for a concert in Alex (like Bowling for soup about the time "1985" came out)

I can't remember what they did in 2003 but it was a big deal on the station if I remember.

Yeah think it was in '78, I remember hearing "Mad-Dawg" Larry Rust on the air one afternoon testing the equipment before their official start.

BTW Larry reappeared in Alex recently on 103.5, but disappeared again only after a few weeks, he has lived up to his name, sadly sometimes.

RFLA...

....I only use the dance mixes to keep some over-hyped, uber-requested songs from getting toasty earlier than they will or to get some much-needed tempo.

Argh.. if I had to hear "Hurt" by Xtina each....and...every....time.... in that slow, funeralistic tempo it originally came out in,

...well, you get the point. Besides, we just needed some power rotation tempo with it.

Thanks for the heads-up, though.

Nice to see you on here again Ron, Yeah I just noticed it though that the station had more dance flavored pop tracks than most of the CHRs I've heard in Louisiana (Mainly KQID,WFMF,KNOE, and WEZB) but you do have a great top 40 flavor going especially for Cenla though. Just difference of opinion on the tracks though.. No problem and thanks for the comeback and the reason why you do it the way you do..

I like Ron's approach better than most other CHRs, such as KSMB....I like don't like getting confused as to whether I'm listening to a hip-hop station or CHR. I listened to KQID when I was home for the Christmas holidays and thought the station sounded good. Good job, Ron.

kqid (q93) is the best top 40 in la. its the ONLY one i can listen to AT ALL.! of course cenla isnt the devil like clear channel ;D

I also think Q93 sounds very good....Ron is doing a very good job and since Cenla Broadcasting recently acquired most of the market the future is gotta be looking pretty bright for them...good work down there guys!!!!

Sounds personal, stoker, so I'll disregard.

Anyhow, the CHANGES put into place are as follows...

CJ moves from afternoons to mornings, with myself.

Jen moves to middays and C-Dub moves to afternoons.

RON & CJ is back after a long hiatus (and a 2 year tour in Iraq for CJ).

Hey Ron,

Also any other changes elsewhere? Heard Hollywood on KRRV say something about changes and was wondering...

Didn't get a chance to finish the q93 top 93 but it was sounding real good

Are you on the new equipment yet?

RFLA

Hey RFLA,

KRRV introduced their nwe morning show, as well. We're all on Prophet NexGen now. Forgot to do it, but the Top 93 songs will be posted on the site tomorrow.

yep nothing but on air changes as suspected..whats so BIG about that? ???

Well, let's see... every daypart has different folks in different spots...

...if a TV network moved their entire lineup around, I think it'd be something worth making sure their audience was aware of.

So shoot me; we chose to bring attention to a day of what we consider to be big changes. Our listeners don't sit in front of a monitor blogging about radio nuts and bolts; they just wanna know where their favorite personalities are when they've been shuffled and whehn you can get their favorite song on.

Sorry it 'steamed" ya. The hype was intended for listeners - and that's, after all, who we're out to entertain.

Ron one thing I have found out about this forum is it full of negativity and sarcasm...You guys are true professionals in this business and I commend everything you guys are doing...keep it up and I suggest you dont waste your time responding to these people!!!
