Q96's website? Some interesting developments

Seems there have been some changes to the Wiki-page about KSIQ. Someone has added a website link and a listen live link (both take u too a coming soon domain), and a blurb about their "new competitors" being 933 and Z90.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KSIQ

The move of Tony Driskill would seem to indicate that the format is staying in place, and that 933 and 94.1 have at least something to worry about. Think about it for a bit. Q96 doesn't have a cluster partner to worry about, so they can pump more variety into their rotation. Also it may seem silly to some, but this very well could be a station where Jeff and Jer end up (although I'm not sure Cherry Creek would want to pay them).

Thoughts?

I don't really think it's silly about Jeff & Jer going to Q96,but I have to agree with you that Cherry Creek may not
want to pay them the amount they were making at Clear Channel. Now If Jeff & Jer were desperate enough to get
back on the air in SD, they'd take a pay cut and be on the "Q". (Jeff & Jer would be a better fit for a CHR station)
The DSC is more of a rock station. However, as I said in an earlier post, if Q96 were to land J&J,or by a longshot,
DSC, Q96 would be a real threat to Channel 933 and(or) Star 941!

94.1's ratings went up after they dumped Jeff & Jer...what makes you think that those two on Q96 would be a threat to 94.1?

If the DSC were to make their way over there somehow, then, yeah. 93.3 and 94.1 have problems, and 101.5 might as well just turn the transmitter off from 5:00-11:00 AM.

First off, I won't get into the J&J vs DSC debate,(I'm neutral). I'm looking at it like this, Q96,is a
newcomer, giving listeners a choice in mainstream CHRs in town, also, from what Garret explained,
Q96 has no cluster partner in which Q96 can pump even much more variety of music to keep listeners,
and thirdly,I know J&J still has a loyal listener base.Combined, that could lead to a huge boost in their
ratings.(J&J certainly can't Hurt their ratings either).As I mentioned earlier,I'm using J&J only because
they would be a better fit for a CHR/Hot AC station. I agree with you, if the DSC gets the jump on J&J
and somehow lands at Q96,They could be a dangerous threat to 933 and(or) 94.1 too.

Stay tuned, new old show coming to 101.5 KGB.

Jeff and Jer to 96.1? That's comedy writing.

New old show???Burger and Prescott??..That would be a shock..DSC on 96.1..It shure would put a dent into all of the clear channel stations..

I've resurfaced this thread because I came across some interesting developments regarding Q96. I was roaming Q96's wikipedia page and came across an update that happened Thursday, Oct 6th: a twitter account as their official webpage (for the moment)- http://twitter.com/#!/KSIQFM961Q96

Some nuggets of information:
- Still working on official website; should be up soon.
- Looking for DJs for the station; should be on the air soon.
- Format change to Country??

Thoughts?

If they went pure old style country like original Hank Williams, Porter Wagoner, etc. they might be able to garner a small number, but they'll have coverage issues and without north county you don't get big country numbers.

Authentic? Logo doesn't match what's on their website, and this logo is ripped from a station of the same name in Champaign IL that doesn't appear to be a CCR station. Just observations...

This website's not very iPhone friendly. I meant 'same logo as on their station vehicle'. I know they don't have a website.

I could be totally off-base questioning the authenticity of the Twitter account, but it doesn't look very professionally done. Maybe it is them!!! ;)

OK I am going to give my opinion...For what it's worth!

Jeff and Jer are WAY too old for a CHR station. They could convince AJ and the Playhouse away, but Jeff and Jer are a terrible fit if you want an audience under 45. The soccer moms they appealed to 10 years ago are going on 50 now.

DSC wont leave 100.7 anytime soon. Rickards likes it there, and he wouldnt want to work for rank amateurs at 96.1. On top of that Dave knows that his audience is males 25-54 not teeny boppers 13-21 female.

I do agree that even with a limited signal that a well programmed CHR with an actual live local on-air staff would make a dent in the ratings. Also if the people like what they hear they will listen through a little static or will listen on the web.

As for the Classic Country, I would LOVE TO SEE THAT. SD is a weird market and cant be calculated and programmed by people in LA or San Antonio. You have to be local. No one has tried Classic Country in SD in a PPM world it might be interesting I think it would bring a 2-3 share 6+. And yes I know that is not a sellable demo! But I think if done right it could get its own niche audience and would hurt KUSS more than KSON.

I don't think anyone is alluding to any type of morning show shake up (that part of this thread is very old.) I think if they are adding air staff, it will be minimum wage minimum talent.

Just curious, why do you think a classic country station would hurt a new country station more than KSON, who plays contemporary and some classics? But who really knows what those 6 year olds are listening to. It could shake up the 12+ #s. :p

Why would an official twitter account tweet to its audience that it 'might be going country'? This twitter account is bogus, and I doubt KSIQ is flipping to country.
