Q99.7 adding more AC titles.... AGAIN.

Lately I've been hearing songs like, "She Will Be Loved" by Maroon 5, "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton and "Complicated" by Avril Lavigne. Now, today I heard, "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis. My, how has this station has come full circle once again! Lol And they don't even bother to segue these old softer songs into current, "Hot" CHR songs! After "Bleeding Love" was Ed Sheeran's "Eyes Closed" and then "A Bar Song" by Shaboozy. I swear, a full half hour and I though Q actually flipped to AC/Hot-AC. I mean, I get it... with the state of CHR lately, the format is purposely playing more throwbacks more often... But, Sheesh... Maybe throw in some gold hits by Missy Elliot, Eve, Flor'ida or T.I. I guess it won't be long before we'll start hearing Jessie McCartney, Matchbox20, Train and Lifehouse! #MissingFullPowerPower

One of the problems today is that many songs are no longer limited to certain formats. For example, A Bar Song was originally released as a country song. But it tested well in several other formats. So it became a huge crossover hit. Same with Morgan Wallen. Record labels don't make music for radio. They make it for the consumption market. This is causing a lot of problems at radio, where they're playing the same songs as stations in very different formats. This is starting to cause a problem when it comes to Grammy award categories. Beyonce's country record got very little country radio airplay. Yet she won the Grammy for Best Country Album.

I just took a look at Billboard's Hot 100. Lots of country songs. If Q played all of them, you'd think you were listening to the Bull! How old is Lose Control? Yet it's still in the Top 10. Most of the Top 10 is Morgan Wallen. If CHR radio reflected the streaming charts, you'd hear lots of songs by a handful of artists. That's not what broadcast radio does.

What about Q99.7 flips to all 2K?

>> That's not what broadcast radio does

In all due respect. it's doesn't matter what broadcast radio does anymore. It's important whatever TikTok does.

When you are the only market covering CHR signal you can "wobble" and there are no consequences. I remember my babysitter had perfected swapping WLS and WCFL on our radio without even looking at the dail if something she didn't like came on station she was listening too. One would assume Q tests their music with folks in their demo.

Top 40 now CHR has almost always be willing to accept a song or two that didn't "fit"what some folks would think that music aimed at sub 25 females should be.

Well, I meant more of the gold and recurrent songs they play. And if we wanna talk current pop songs there are plenty that Q doesn't play (or hardly play at all).. when many other CHRs have these in, at least medium to heavy rotation.

SZA "30 For 30"
MGK "cliche"
Drake "Nokia"
HUNTR/X "Golden"
Kendrick Lamar "Luther" (played it but then suddenly dropped it when it was still in the Top 5)
The Weekend, "Timeless"

As far as gold titles, why not throw in something like
Gwen Stefani "Holla Back Girl"
Beyonce "Naughty Girl"
Casscada "Everytime We Touch"
OUTKAST "Ms Jackson"
Timbaland "The Way I Are"

I know those titles are all QUITE rhythmic.... But it would most certainly balance out all the currents by Morgan Wallen, Teddy Swims, Benson Boone, Myles Smith, Hozier, etc. It's the overall flow of Q 99.7 that's the issue. This station lacks any excitement (in it's flow). Why go from Benson Boone>> into Leona Lewis>> into Ed Sheeran..... when they could they could play something more rhythmic, after the lighter songs? That's all I'm saying. ;)

Speaking of Lose Control...some of the talk program hosts I am listening to are making comments about these songs being used as bumpers and how they have become sick of hearing them day after day. They are appealing to the program director to update the play lists or replace the overplayed currents with their favorite gold or recurrent titles. It is difficult to conduct an upbeat morning show when the intro music is repetitive and unexciting.
