QC ratings out!

What an interesting ratings book this time around. Both 97X and Rock 104.9 went up, WLLR on top again of course with 3+ points gained, Star was flat, KUUL was up, and both Mix and B dropped like a rock.

What's going on with these ratings? Is Clear Channel going to make some changes to go after the two rock leaders, or are they done with that since they already gave up the talent they had in Dwyer and Michaels to save them some money. Cumulus is probably having a party with most of their stations doing well. B dropped big, but its summer and those numbers will go back up again. Why is mix down so much with Star flat? Everyone switching to country and rock and that's it, or do you think the books just got into the hands of a different group of people this time?

Not sure how much celebrating Cumulus will do going. Looks like CC is way ahead of them.

Cluster Analysis

Clear Channel Communications (44.2)

Cumulus Media, Inc. (26.6)

So will we not be seeing the radio ratings in the QC soon since cumulus is switching to neilsen? That would suck

Clear Channel now subscribes only to Nielson, too. Both clusters are Nielson only; those ratings/numbers results are due in August (mid-month, I think).

BTW, did anyone see this when it appeared in Monday's (July 27) QC Times? The truth hurts, but this listener perspective says it all:

We never realized how dependent we were on the FM broadcast audio from KWQC-TV until the June 19 storm hit while we were driving. We scanned both AM and FM in our car radio, and nowhere was there any indication of the storm, its severity or power outages. Are there any Quad-City radio stations that broadcast live all of the time? At one time we caught a garbled National Weather Service advisory on KUUL, but could hardly understand a word of it. It is a terrible statement of the times that one cannot get any local news emergency updates via radio in a market this size.

It's called a Weather Radio. They run for $30 at Wal-Mart or RadioShack.

Commercial Radio Stations are supposed to air all Emergency Alert System bulletins, but most in the Quad Cities do not.

WXLP is not a bit surprising to me. They're playing a much better choice of rock from the 60s, 70s, and 80s than KCQQ-Q106. KBOB (ROCK 104.9) is surprising. When they made the shuffle to replace the "River" country format on 104.9, alot of people though they were making a huge mistake. However, they are the only Rock Variety format in the QC. So unfortunately, we're stuck with them. As for KQCS (STAR 93.5), they just aren't as well known as KMXG-MIX 96. The ratings for KMXG aren't surprising, as they don't play a very good blend of music. WMT-FM (MIX 96.5) in Cedar Rapids is better than them. And KBEA's rating are simply because they play too much rap and hip-hop. There's already a station that plays nothing but hip-hop/rap in Rock Island at 92.5 MHz. Granted their signal is not the best in Bettendorf.

I'm surprised WLLR has the ratings they do. The music they play sucks compared to KHKI (97.3 The Hawk) in Des Moines.
