QEI 691 FM Mod monitor

I've got one of these that's come from the USA, so it's currently set for 75uS de-emphasis.

Does anyone have the information to convert it to 50uS?

I have the manual that came with it, but it seems that there are pages missing - whether this is deliberate or a printing error I don't know.

It does show the schematic diagram but gives NO information on how to modify the unit to 50uS.

I have emailed QEI on many occasions and even though they read my emails, they won't reply!

Great products, sh*t after-sales service.

Two things come to mind.
1. Get hold of Jeff Detweiler at iBiquity. I bet he could tell you who in the QEI oprganization was the lead on that toy and might know who to contact directly for help.
2. There's a non-preemphasized ouitput on it someplace (I forget where but there is one for proof measurements), why not just take it and externally preemphasize it at 50uS? Cheap n dirty, but it ought to work.

Back in the late 80's I worked at a station with one of these little jems - when it worked it was great - when I had a problem I was on my own.

I was always brought up using TFT and I've also had good luck with Belar.

I recently purchased an Innovonics for an FM and its a great box. Also much cheaper than all the others I looked at.

Good luck.

May I comment on Inovonics? Their products are tops, and service is so reasonable in price it is astounding. Plus, sometimes you get to speak directly to the Boss. Need assistance, schematic, or IB for their products...even if it is out of production? No problem. If you have not availed yourself of their products, please do so. This sounds like a commercial, but no, it is just a commendation to a company that deserves it! Thanks JBI

I was brought up Belar and have had great luck with them. Innovonics are wonderful as well and after reading this thread I will certainly avoid picking up any QEI product. One station I work at has a QEI which I'll suggest they replace soon.

Having used all three manufacturers, I will normally use the Belar for transmitter setup and tuning. For off-air, either the Inovonics or the QEI, and the Invonics is a much newer and more compact design. The QEI was the first tuneable one on the market, and was placed for that reason in many stations.
I note that I have also used TFT. They are completely whelming. My take on TFT mod monitors is, I like their EAS product less worse than the Sage product.
