QFM Billboards

I was driving to work today and seen a billboard for 921 QFM. It looks like it was designed by a 7th grader with the first edition of Corel Draw. I seen better designs on a Commodore 64. I think it wins the award for worst billboard ever. (Scratch that second place, remember the 95.7 Z-Rock boards with Uncle Sam)
 
I suppose it's the expense but it has always amazed me that radio stations rarely market themselves through an ad agency.

Do we ask the kid running the burger press at McDonald's to come up with the marketing strategy? No. Why? He's not any good at it. But we'll take a sales manager and a program director (and ask yourself, if you went to high school with either your sales manager or your program director, would you have wanted to copy off them?) and they'll hammer out something effective.

"We're communications and marketing experts...we don't need anyone to design a campaign. We know what our target is. How 'bout we put some words in the copy like...exciting? New? Like that, to build up the interest."

And Junior just sits on the porch with that banjo...
 
I was totally surprised when I heard this, but QFM DOES use an ad agency!!!! Someone who works up there told me the name, but I can't remember it. Does the name Semion ring a bell?? I do know Colin (former D&W danger-boy) works for the same agency. From the looks of that billboard, I agree---a roomful of monkeys with Crayolas could have done better. Money well spent, eh?????
