Quadraphonic FM (using Sansui QS Matrix)

https://www.prosoundnetwork.com/recording/the-unlikely-return-of-quadraphonic-vinyl

I don't know the cost of making a special Quad remix of the songs FM stations play,
but offering Quadraphonic content could draw listeners from streaming audio listening
back to (FM, at least) radio listening.

No one likely has a decoder for listening anymore. Although I have a ton of records in QS, SQ and CD-4, I can't listen to any of them in anything other than stereo now. (And I'm not sure I'd want to go through the expense of trying to find and buy a decoder for any of them.) The Dolby 5.1 is probably not the perfect match. And, since Quad for music died years ago, won't it do the same this time?

Dolby surround is really only good for movies at this point.

Around 2005 there was a big push to add 5.1 channel surround sound support to HD Radio. It went nowhere due to lack of interest.

The content owner would do the Quad remix + QS encoding
and use the regular Stereo audio distribution method(s) to
provide the Stereo FM stations with the QS Quad mix.

No changes would be needed to broadcast QS Quad.

QS (hardware) decoders are fairly simple to implement and
there could also be a software QS decoder for car audio systems.

AMRocks:
http://www.pspatialaudio.com has software decoders for QS,SQ,CD-4.
