QUALITY CONTROL! (Quality in top 40 hit music making a come back this decade?)

Jay-Z's "forever young..

Now, I can only wonder WHY this half-assed song was released as is? The chorus is the only portion of the song I really like, and I kind of wish someone actually sang throughout the entire song or some other rapper rapped on it, other than Jay-Z's half-assed rap! I know for a fact that Jay-Z could do MUCH better than what he delivered on that song! I wish it was Flo Rida, Drake, or Ludacris, or EVEN LIL WAYNE or someone else who did the rap instead. I could understand the type of thought process "well, I'm already established, so I could just put something halfway decent together and get by with it..", but if we are going to start continue to do this, then I'd prefer that everyone just start releasing songs like "Around the world" by Daft Punk. At least, this way, if you don't feel like putting together a decent rhyme or have nothing to say, you could still make a decent sounding record.

I'm using Jay-Z's song as an example here, but this is just ONE of the many songs out there that I could bring up. To conserve time, I'm just using that ONE song as an example since it's in my mind at the moment. I mean, yes, anything could pass or be considered acceptable in music today, which I can clearly see by certain hits that make it to number one in this country, but all I ask is that some effort is put into ALL areas of whatever tune you choose to release. Even KE$HA's raps are more properly arranged, worded, and lined up on beat than Jay-Z's raps in "forever young".

Like the producers say in the U.K, QUALITY CONTROL PLEASE!!! Lets quit slacking people! Halfway decent just isn't cutting it. Technology has advanced along with time. THE QUALITY IN MUSIC SHOULD, TOO. I also cannot FULLY understand how certain songs make the charts while there's plenty of much better quality stuff out there than doesn't even see the light of day. Yes, I know it has something to do with money, but still...

QUALITY CONTROL!!!!

QUALITY CONTROL!!!!

Whether it be in the instrumentation, lyrics, wording arrangement, melody, ...etc. Don't slack just because you know you'll still get by with a hit and people will still lower their standards and buy it because it's all they know... And lastly, I really hate it when producers let a great instrumental go to waste with someone who's only going to... (how can I put this?) .. "do something stupid with it".

FYI, "Forever Young" came out in the 80s, and is a personal favorite of mine. It's by German New Wave act Alphaville, who are also famous for releasing songs like "Big In Japan" and "Sounds Like A Melody".

Here's what "Forever Young" sounds like without the annoying Rap (and I usually like Jay Z)

I would have to totally disagree 100% on Jay Z and Mr. Hudson's "Young Forever". This is actually one of my favorite tracks out right now at CHR (as I posted on another thread). And yes, I'm 40, so I also remember the original new wave hit by Alphaville in the early 80's. I always loved that track, and I like the Jay Z remake as well. As far as Jay Z's effort and production goes; I think it all comes down to his style. He's always been more about that "laid back attitude" more so than quick delivery or rhyming ability. If you are looking for really fast, intricate rhymes, than Jay Z is not the person. But, as they say in hip hop, it's all about the "swagger" and the attitude, and Jay Z exudes that NYC feeling and stance. Also, don't know if you've seen the video for the track or not, but it's great too.

Anyway, I can see where some might not like it, if you are simply wanting complicated, quick paced rhyming, but for the message, feel, and attitude, the song is meant to deliver, I think Jay Z nails it. I've actually loved every single so far from Jay Z's "Blueprint 3" album, and think it's probably his best work ever. (maybe not strictly based on rhyming ability, but for the overall feeling and attitude it has. It's less about keeping up and competing with the younger rappers, and more about being comfortable with his own style and where he is in life at his age. And I think he nails it.) I just wish I heard the track more often on CHR. I'm not hearing as many jump on this one early as I did on "Run this town" and "Empire State of Mind". Especially smaller and medium market stations.

I think "run this town" died too quickly. It did not get the attention it deserved. However, "Empire state of mind" did, in my opinion. That was a very well done track with "classic material" written all over it. Just has that right sound for popularity, and back in the day play a few years down the road.

"Young Forever" is doing well at several medium market CHRs, including Power 96.5 Springfield, 95 SX Charleston, Hot Mix 101.9 Fayetteville, and 93.1 Hot Music Now Boise

Ok I admit the second verse in Jay-Z's "forever young" is superior in comparison to the first. Now KZON has just picked it up as well, so both KZON and KZZP are on it.
