There is never going to be a way to please and satisfy everyone, so in reality there's no point in arguing. I'm just going to say that I am happy with the direction we are headed in, despite the imperfections that exist, and I am just going to take advantage of what's happening now. There will be very limited to no arguing coming from me at all because I've noticed it doesn't really get me anywhere. In 2010, I'll just be shutting up and playing the hits.. playing whatever I like.. whatever people want to call it.. and enjoying it. Whether or not it's mainstream or can be classified and known as a genre today or not - I don't care anymore. I'm just running with the sounds I like and doing so happily. The past is gone, so I'm getting over it and just accepting things as they are today. I'm taking it very easy in 2010. It is what it is, and I'm just letting things be.
That has been my "changed" view, especially after we lost Party FM here in NYC, which is why I've settled down with my postings and if anything, getting AT people that don't understand or NEVER WILL because of their own agendas.
No one is going to be completely satisfied. But let's just take what we have and enjoy. To that, I have to think more on the casual fan. Us core fans are going to support this music, no matter what. But the reality is, there are a few of "us" and more of the "casual". And if they like Cascada, Guetta, Kim Sozzi, etc., then that's fantastic! If those that have made it can allow the doors to be opened for future artists or artists that are core but not on the mainstream level, then THAT is where the growth is and as dance music fans, we can only embrace it.
If we stay TOO strong to our beliefs, then we are still going to have the "5" terrestrial stations with only 2 of the commercial. Dance will never grow because even in the mindset of radio pros, they think we are too "fanatical" and nitpick on every little thing going on. That is why after the WMC is over, I'm going to try again but look at it on the angle of advertising because there IS an untapped audience that can be served here so as long as we can clear the "hurdles" of what the ad world perceives as the negative stereotypes (gay, druggie, the fist pumping "Jersey Shore" type)....though with the latter, as much as I hate to admit based on the growing popularity, advertisers can really channel in on that show's demos and if those demos could listen to dance music in the future, the advertisers have that "avenue" to reach to them.
That is my angle now, and as fans while we should still continue to love and support, let those that have the job DO the job and we should just be appreciative instead of snarky, cynical, critical, nitpicky, etc.
Thank you,
