…like you, and most people on this board, I love the more pure forms of contemporary Dance music
I’m curious to see what people on this board consider “pure forms of contemporary dance music.”
… Tik Tok by Ke$ha. I was annoyed by her $ sign at first till I found it what it really represented. It turns out that she's the singer on "Right Round" and she never got credit for it or any money.
Lol. Ke$ha is still annoying to me. Her explanation of the $ in her name seems only like more “Hey, I’m a rocker chick! I’m not urban” posturing. Yeah, I’m sure most rappers also have some “ironic” meaning the use of $; most of them are poor too. Ke$ha acts as if she’s embarrassed about collaborating Flo-Rida though that was her break in the industry. She wants to ignore the fact that she’s a hit artist only because “Tik Tok” is a rap over a dance beat, a sound that is popular at the time. She still proclaims her true self as “Rocker!Chick!” Her imaging strives for the most non-urban, grungy rock look as possible. Three years from now she’ll be doing straight up rock music, proclaiming “this is the real me!” I don’t see why dance music fans get excited by her at all.
Greg -- just because I HATE it when people "pile on".... disco will never die. Sylvester "you make me feel" has been sampled a couple times since 2003.
There’s plenty of that going on in dance. I don’t think most dance fans know the extent. I’ll explore the roots relation to contemporary dance in another post.
