They've got to be kidding. What has happened to to Channel 4? They have the WORST syndicated fare of any local station.

Starts Monday 1/29. I'm sure it won't last through the February sweeps. I hope they like being in 8th place.

Not necessarily true...sensationalized and controversial programming always attracts an audience. If not, then ol' Jerry Springer would have been canceled years ago.

Jerry Springer is a talk show. It's also a first run strip. Queer Eye is a strip of repeats from the low-rated NBC controlled Bravo network. Quite a difference.

Queer Eye has also be cancelled by Bravo do to low ratings http://tv.yahoo.com/news/article/ur...112:2ad9d1fa790c_44ef_8db8_ac042eb8f342__ER:1

The answer to why this is running is actually quite simple: it's filler material to replace a low-rated cancelled talk show. Since NBC Universal was the syndicator for the cancelled program, they simply dug into their library to find something quick and cheap to replace the cancelled program for the next few months.

So "Queer Eye" landed on the KNBC schedule not because it was sensationalistic, but just because it was available and cheap.

KNBC previously ran "The Local Story..." Summer Edition and Fall Edition - a local newscast offshoot of "News Raw" which currently runs on http://www.nbc4.tv/newsraw/index.html It was put on to fill FAILED syndicated programming at NBC 4. It's a local newscast run out of the newsroom and featured (normally KNBC general assignment reporter) anchor Ross Becker (former KCOP/Los Angeles and KTNV/Las Vegas anchor) talking with the assignment desk, other reporters, anchors and the technical people in a casual way in the newsroom (Ross is now at ABC4 in Salt Lake City). The concept is now being exported to other NBC O&O's. It was actually starting to bump up the dismal ratings KNBC had (and still has) at 3 PM in the summer book, the same time period that Queer Eye is going to fail in. They'd be better off running that since the costs are next to zero to run it (it's already on NBC4.TV) and there is only competition from CBS's independent KCAL 9 from 3-3:30 PM for local news.

Personally, I think "News Raw" and "The Local Story" are not up to Los Angeles standards of quality and professionalism. But KNBC isn't what it use to be anyway. Robert Long makes many poor judgements as a news director and KNBC has a terrible general manager.

Don't know the situation, but it's a long way to go say that someone makes "poor judgements" or is "a terrible general manager," just because you don't agree with their decisions. If you have worked for those individuals, the case may be different. Otherwise, I agree with almost everything else you said..

I don't need to work for someone to know they make terrible decisions. I can "see" or "hear" it as a seasoned professional who has been in the business more than 1/4 of a century.

The quality of news programming on KNBC has gone down hill since Robert Long became news director., for one (but I blame that more on the general manager). And "News Raw", although they call it "innovative' at NBC, is a product that is not up to the quality standards of NBC.

As for Queer Eye, I've seen the overnights over the last few weeks, it's never come in better than 6th place and it's key demos are terrible. Some days it has come in 8th place behind Univision's KMEX 34. That's enough to say "poor decision" and "terrible general manager" to me.
