Question about 93Q

Recently, I heard some airchecks of 93Q (WNTQ) from both 1996 and 1998. What I want to know is this: 93Q was listed as a CHR station during this time. In my opinion, 93Q was not a true CHR station. Reason being they had quite a few 80s titles in their rotation. Overall, Hot AC seems like a pretty close match for 93Q during this time period. Anyone here agree with me? Any insight on this?

Which daypart was it? My memories of 93Q from that era aren't strong, but I remember for quite awhile thinking that they leaned a little more towards "Hot AC" during midday hours, when kids are in school and their "bread and butter" would be people who might be listening at work. Then later in the afternoon/evening, it would lean back to more of a CHR flavor -- less of the "golds" and "recurrents" and more top 40.
 
93Q in the 80's may have been the last group of "True Radio Guys" in Syracuse. Bob, whether you thought the station was "Hip" or "Physically Exciting" does not matter when it comes to fact. The truth is that Dave Laird knew exactly where he was in the market. Dave is, of course the last true Radio Man to program a station in Syracuse. No one knew this market, and what to do with it, better than Dave.
When Dave ran the station, it had solid ratings and sales for Syracuse. It is difficult to teach a staff the basics of what to do to get a mass of listeners in Syracuse, when they're alll hyped up on what Howard Stern and NY City is doing. Syracuse is a VERY DIFFERENT place, and is hard to program correctly. What you heard in the 80's format, was a representation of what should be done in Syracuse with a CHR. Any variance would be convolution in this Radio Mans ear.
