Just heard a clip from 1983 on Formatchange.com of KCBS flipping to KRQR. Was this station owned by CBS then in it's KCBS days? Kinda interesting the former KCBS is now a CBS Radio station.

When they switched the format to classic rock in the early 80s, they changed the call letters to KRQR ("The Rocker"), and moved the KCBS-FM call letters to the former KNX-FM in Los Angeles.
It was also about that time CBS changed the call letters of Channel 2 (Los Angeles) from KNXT to KCBS-TV. It's been speculated as to why they didn't move the KCBS-AM call letters from 740 AM here to KNX 1070 in LA. Probably because both KCBS and KNX were highly rated at the time, and they saw no need to fix what wasn't broken.
cayenne said:"The Rocker" had a great run with a couple of exceptional jocks. Steven Seaweed and Mercy Hawkes were both with the station over 10 years in key day parts. Seaweed is still on KSAN "The Bone" with uncommon longevity. I believe Mercy is retired and one of the best pure Rock N' Roll jocks ever.

Its interesting that most of the public refers to 106.9 as KCBS even though its officially called KFRC-FM. and KCBS-FM is for Jack FM 93.1 Los Angeles.
I remember KRQR-FM flipped to AAA/Hot AC KLLC Alice 97.3FM. I remember KRQR as the AOR station playing music that would be on KUFX 102.1 FM today.

For 106.9, "KCBS" could be considered a brand, for convenience sake. They obviously don't want the anchors to have to refer to "KCBS and KFRC-FM" all the time. It would take too long, and just confuse listeners.
It's a brand, just like "KNBR/1050" (KTCT) is a brand, or "Star" (KIOI) or "Kiss" (KISQ) or "Live" (KITS)...or etc. Really, it's that simple.
