Question about 97BHT

I was wondering if anyone on here could give me their opinions on 97BHT. What do they do well, and what do they do not so well. What should they do to be more competitive with KRZ?

BHT in my estimation has established itself (but more
importantly held on to the designation) as the niche leader
for the age group 12 through 24. The format skews female
and the numbers have been pretty consistent through the
years. In terms of advertising, the station has a clent
base of furniture stores, car dealerships and other
traditional advertisers heard on the big 3 stations in
the market. From the start, the station was positioned
to clients with the philosophy that the BHT listener
needs to buy furniture, cars and other goods just like
the rest of the world. So they have not strayed from
their basic mission and they bill pretty well.
They don't seem to be able to keep talent too long
(Although Jenn is still there) and go voice tracking
overnights but I chalk that up to being part of the
Citadel chain which sucks the life blood out of the
good and disregards the rest.
To compete with KRZ they need to get on a 50,000 watt
signal, pay their talent more and promote as much as
KRZ does. But it's the Big "C" and they aren't known
for building up, just tearing down.

Do you really want to know?

I used to work there and boy the turn around is unbelievable. I witnessed Steve McKay get fired and Mark McKay get hired, 1 GM leave and Regina come in and 3 new staff members to BHT ...3 months later I resigned cause I couldn't take all the BS. I was in market 110 before I moved to NEPA and it's pretty sad to see a a 60 something market station be so unorganized. I wanted to run back to my old job and beg for forgiveness.

From what I hear it's gotten worse over there.

To answer the original poster's question from somebody not in radio...a listener...they play too many commercials. My kids, son especially, likes that they play the "remix" version of current singles. KRZ does not, they seem to stay more mainstream. I can't listen to much of that crap for too long, but when I do, it's not for long since it seems that they play three songs, then about five commercials. I like the River's policy of no more than three commercials in a row.
