Question about an real old stations WZOK 1320 96.9

Hey Guys:

Would anybody have any info on the format of WZOK 1320 from 1958 to 1968 before it became Country WVOJ? Was it MOR/Standards by any chance? Also WZOK 96.9, was it Beautiful music between 1961 to 1969?

Thanks

T.J.

I seem to remember the call letters being WJHP and it was sister station to
WJHP-TV an early UHF who's antenna adorns the top of one of the 1320 towers,
don't know if its still there. I think WJHP-TV was on channel 30 and affiliated with ABC

WJHP-TV was on channel 36 and was owned by the John H. Perry Newspaper group, hence the call letters WJHP - John Perry's initials... The Perry group also owned WTMC-AM 1290 Ocala, the Ocala Star-Banner (daily newspaper) and WMFJ-AM 1450/WESH-TV 2 NBC Daytona Beach...

The tower for WJHP-TV, Ch-36 was on Phillips highway.

The antenna on one of the WJHP (AM) 1320 towers was for WJHP-FM, 96.9.

WZOK was an eclectic mix of big band music, news and sports in the early 1960s.

Lots of baseball, notably Chicago White Sox, with ubiquitous commercials for Beneficial Finance and Friendly Bob Adams.

Paul Harvey news and the latest right wing scoop courtesy of Melvin Munn and Lifeline. We were told to buy those HLH can goods but none were to be found in NE Florida.

Beginning in 1962, there was play-by-play for the AAA Jacksonville Suns. Home games were live from Wolfson Park and road games were re-creations. Around 1966, the play-by-play contract migrated to WJAX.

One was to believe that the sportscasters were at the game but the clacking teletype in the background gave them away. Also, the brief disclaimer at the start of the broadcast.

And sportscaster Ed Cain pulling an airshift playing music then within a couple of hours taking a magic carpet ride to cites like Buffalo, Toledo, Toronto, Richmond and Rochester.

This is all fascinating stuff. I fancied myself as a historian, but I'm only 30 (holy jeez), and most of my "history bank" is within my lifetime. I just wanted to tell you all, thanks for sharing.
