Question about BBC

The new Sherlock on BBC One, looks good but why is there only 3 shows for the 2010 season.
Is this a BBC thing ? Anyone know ?
 
i believe its called a miniseries in the UK shows are a lot shorter then in America!!
 
"The Young Ones" - best BBC series ever... only twelve episodes over two seasons.

The average season "order" in England is six per season, or so it seems... The average British series is a "miniseries" by comparison to our shows!
 
They also don't call them seasons. They call them series. Most are like that. The new version of Survivors only had 12-14 eps over two seasons (series??).
 
Indeed, they will use "series" rather than "season" over 4.
When I hear about the diff. BBC networks I'm reminded of a gag in Monty Python where a bunch
of funeral home workers want to listen to something on the radio. "I think it's on Radio 4".
Opens up a big radio, takes out a smaller one "Radio One, radio two..."
Inside the smaller one is an even smaller radio. "...Radio 3..."
And finally the smallest radio, is inside of that. "Ah! Radio 4!"
 
The BBC wants a 3rd season of sherlock, and CBS is now shooting a modern day Sherlock that will be living in NYC. It will be called Elementary, The BBC is not happy.
