Question about Breakaway Audio Software

First off, I have to say I love this software. Am running the demo till I can pay for it next week. Using the Regulator setting, and am having a tiny problem though. On final output it's shooting into the red and I can really hear the distortion on some songs. I tried lowering the volume both in Winamp and in Breakaway but no luck. Then tried lowering the volume on the mixer in my computer's control panel, and still no luck. Should I back the compression levels down a bit from what is standard on the preset?

But still, this is THE sound I've spent close to a decade chasing down with plugins. It really is.
 
There is no such distortion in the Regulator preset itself. Have you tried the attenuator plug-ins?
Do you use winamp as a source (playout) or as a destination (streaming)?

Questions, questions... ;D
 
Before blaming the settings - check the source material. How does it look when opened in a waveform editor ?
 
You might consider posting your questions at the forum on Leif's site. There's a lot of very knowledgeable folks there who can answer your questions quickly.
 
Speaking of which, Leif used to post on here frequently. Haven't seen him here in a very long time. He also hoped to introduce a pro version of Breakaway at the NAB in April 2010. I emailed him a few weeks before then & asked if that plan was still intact...got no answer. Anyone had any contact with him recently?
 
There are plugins for breakaway that will lower the input. I have to use one if I'm running straight out of winamp. It's typical of today's hypercompressed material to beat the daylights out of breakaway, if they're not attenuated, first.
 
Plugins for Breakaway? I had no idea such a thing existed. And, as regards the site's forum, I keep getting bounced back to the login page when I try to post something. I even sent an e-mail to the webmaster and that bounced back to me as undeliverable. I'm going to look around for an alternate means of contacting someone, because I have no intention of purchasing a product I can't get support for.
